Got our first share from Lancaster Farm Fresh yesterday
...and I am roasting beets to go with dinner.I'm going to make a rhubarb pie for dessert on Monday too.
I am very excited to try this locally grown food. If anyone is interested there are still shares available at http://www.lancasterfarmfresh.com/
I've never done a co-op before, so we will see.
Re: Got our first share from Lancaster Farm Fresh yesterday
Do you know if they have one in York? How does it work?
I'm not sure if they have one in York or not.
How it works is you pay up front for your share and then every week or every other week you go pick up your share of vegetables. The vegetables are all locally and organically grown and harvested within 72 hours of pick up so they are really fresh.
If you don't like or don't want a particular vegetable you can put it in a share box and select something else from the share box, or just give it up totally and it will be donated.
This week we got beets, rhubarb, romaine lettuce, swiss chard, parsley, scallions and radishes.
You also have the option of buying a fruit share, which we did and you can get locally raised eggs, milk and meat for an additional charge.
It is $700 for a full share or $375 for a half share. We did the half share since it is just the two of us. It was an additional $60 for the half share of fruit.
That should be all the veggies you need from May through October.
