Walmart Cakes - good or bad?

I need to order a cake for my son, and he likes one from Walmart.  I was just wondering if they sucked or not.  Any advice would be great. Thanks.  :)

Re: Walmart Cakes - good or bad?

  • I ordered one from the fancy WalMart in HV for my niece and it was good
  • Not the best, Costco is better (if you have a membership) and actually cheaper!
  • I have had good experiences with the flavor of the Walmart Cakes. Costco didn't taste that much better to me.
  • MrsSandro - you must have had the wrong flavors together or something! Every Costco cake I've tasted has been awesome.

    Costco!

  • Unfotunately Costco had crappy designs.
  • Sam's has really good cakes also.  Not sure if that means Walmart does also.  I don't know if I have ever had a Walmart cake.

I got Ryan's from Kroger and it was really good.   They might have the same design?
  • I've never had a bad walmart cake...or a bad one from anywhere really.  I've had some that I would consider better than other though.  I really really like Target or Costco cakes.  I know Target can decorate a cake on pretty short notice sometimes if they arent super busy.
  • your pregnant friend will eat any type of cake.
  • I 2nd Sam's. ?We just had one for a shower at work this afternoon and we had a photo of the couple screened onto the cake. ?It was a really pretty cake AND their cakes always taste good! ?They use good buttercream frosting. ?The one we ordered today was a full sheet (1/2 white, 1/2 choc) with a photo screened on and it was only $35. ?Can't speak for other Sam's, but the ladies that work in the bakery in NRH are super nice, too.

    i think cake wins!

and on a different tangent, i found the COOLEST restaurant here. you go in and order the "cake-y buffet". you get 1 hour to eat as much cake as you want and they have TONS of different kinds. and they are good- not weird japanese flavors but really good ones. a cake buffet- reason # 29273597 why i really like this country!!!?

  • Erin - um, you could get the American Flag cake. hello?!?! :P

Ha!  Cake has been the 1 thing that has sounded so good my entire pregnancy.  Sadly, I've barely eaten any.

I love the chocolate/white swirl cake from Walmart with Buttercream Icing. We always get our kids' cakes there!

  • I like them.  I got one for a shower and everyone was asking where I got it from - it was weird to say Wal-Mart :)  My store bought cake tastes are Costco - not a fan of the filling, Sam's - delicious, Kroger/TomThumb/Market Street so so, Target - delicious.
  • Hendrixs Birthday cake came from  Walmart and we loved it.. tasted like cake! LOL THey did a great job decorating and it was cheap! :) Good Enough for me!
  • there will definitely be cake, though, right?
  • I had a great experience with Signature Kroger cakes. They can do custom designs with fondant and everything. And cake is yummy too.
