aw:nervous

I just got a call from a place that i put an application in a few weeks ago, she wanted to set up an interview. So i set it up for Wed at 4..i'm going to have to ask my mgr to leave early...only 30 minutes early but still. means i have to lie to her...ugh. i can't tell her im going to an interview, although she may figure it out....

I'm so nervous. omg. i'm nervous bc I feel bad leaving the company i'm with now, even though they dont always treat me the best and i have no benefits.

I have a vacation planned in July. As far as making sure they would give me that off, do I wait until after they offer me a job (if they should offer me a job)....

and as far money is concerned. If they do not offer the info, do I wait to ask what they would be starting me at? I pretty much know what the "starting" pay is, bc i know 2 other girls that work there...but i have alot more experience then they do so i'm hoping they also go by experience.

  • First off congrats on getting the interview!  Don't feel bad for leaving a job as long as you give them sufficient time to find a replacement.  You deserve to have a job that you enjoy.  I understand because I would feel bad leaving mine too.  I think you wait to tell them of the vacation until they make the offer.  Unless it comes up somehow or they ask then be truthful.  Also with the pay I bet they would tell you in the interview but I wouldn't bring it up if they don't.  Good luck!
  • Salary is usually negotiable, I would wait to ask that until the job offer unless they volunteer that info.  As far as the days you need off, don't mention they until you are offered the job.  Unfortunately in an interview you could be the most qualified person, but if you mention needing time off they may decide to go with another candidate.
  • GL with the interview. I know you feel bad but don't look at it that way. You are trying to find a better opportunity and you have to do what is best for you.

As far as the money goes, the last time I was interviewing for a job, they offered the info to me before I could ask. That was nice bc I wasn't looking forward to asking. Either way, you need to know before you can accept a potential job offer.

  • Jena - how awesome that you got an interview!! I'm with the other ladies. Don't ask about salary unless they bring it up. Don't mention the vacay unless they bring it up. Once you're offered the position you can try and negotiate salary and mention the vacation. I generally ask about the "schedule" in the interview. To me, this entails work hours, whether or not I will work weekends, how much time off a person starts with, etc. While some people don't like to ask about how much vacation, sick time, or leave you can take, I find that important enough I bring it up in interviews and have never had a problem. But, make sure you only ask what you feel comfortable with too.

    Much GL!
