York nesties

Where do you go to church? I've been considering going back, but need recommendations for good churches in the area.

Re: York nesties

  • Hi there!  I've seen you a lot on the TTTC board.  Sorry to see you over there.  Hopefully you get your BFP very soon!

We go to Living Word on Cape Horn Rd. in Red Lion. www.lwccyork.com DH started going there years ago when he was in college and when I met him, I started to attend with him.  It's non-demoninational and a fairly big church but it's very contemporary.   I grew up Catholic and it was a bit of a transition for me when I first started there.  And there are a ton of young people there, which we like.  They have 2 services on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and 1045 a.m. and then they have a young adult group that meets on Tuesday nights (called Liquid Tuesdays).  I forget what time that meets.  If you're ever interested in going, page me and maybe we can meet there!

  • I attend Valley View Alliance off the Hellam exit of Rt. 30...you can see the water slide off the highway Smile  We have two services (8 and 10:30).  It's not nearly as big as Living Word but we are growing. People of all ages. There are weekly or monthly activities for men, women, and kids.

Let me know if you have any specific questions or want to stop by some Sunday.

Do they have young people (like our age)? Are they big? Do they have traditional as well as contemporary?

    Thanks! :)

  • We got to 4th United Methodist on the corner of Market St and Lehman St.  Here's the website http://www.gbgm-umc.org/fourthumc/  There seems to be alot more younger (20-30 age range) people attending.  I like that they don't push anything onto you and they offer alot of social events that are fun.  I also like that the same 3 people are in charge of the nursery and are almost always there so Sierra feels comfortable with them.
  • My friends attended?http://www.zionumcyork.com/?and I went with them a couple of times before we move to Lansdale. ?I really liked it because they offered both contemporary AND traditional service. ?They had tons of youth (our age) involvement. I had attended both the contemporary service several times (this was held in the Audion) and the traditonal (in the old part of the church). ?If we hadn't moved we probably would have attended this church.

  • You know I'm not a York girl, but the family does have strong roots over there... have to throw St. Matthew ELC into your consideration as well.  They're a large church with traditional and contemporary services, and lots of things going on in terms of activities and involvement.  Doesn't hurt that it's also the church that DH's grandfather pastored for a verrrrry long time, either. Wink  FWIW, a large portion of the family (even the cousins that are in their 20s and 30s) still attend there, as well as DH's grandparents.

    Happy church hunting! :)

ETA:  I do know of (and have attended services at/know the pastors at) a few other ELCA churches over there, but I think St Matt's would fit your desires best... catch me on instant messenger if you want to hear about the others!
