weekend getaway ideas?

I'm trying to plan for DH and my 1 year anniversary. Initially we were going to use flight vouchers we have and take a long weekend somewhere. But due to work schedules, we're just going to stay closer to home (lancaster) and hoping to do a few hour drive and stay the weekend somewhere.

Any ideas?
TIA

Re: weekend getaway ideas?

  • What about Philly or Atlantic City?
  • There is a GREAT B&B in Potter County called "Kettle Creek Adventures". I sent my parents there for their 25 year anniversary, and then my grandparents went there for a getaway. Both couples LOVED it! It was so peaceful and the owners are FANTASTIC. If there aren't a lot of people there they will upgrade you. And you WILL see wildlife while you are there. Let them know that Abbie referred you and that I also referred my parents and grandparents. They should know who I am because I worked with them so much with my parents' surprise trip.

  • dh just took me on a surprise trip for our anniversary to Inner Harbor.  We stayed in a fantastic hotel with a great view.  We went on a dinner cruise and spent time at the different shops and just walked around  ... it was great
  • Are you looking for beach, mountains, city?

Beach wise you could do Cape May, NJ which is a nice, historic beach town. It is filled with great B&Bs, shops, etc. but has the small town feel. It's about a 3 hour drive.

?It's funny that Abbie mentioned Potter County. Both of my parents and families grew up there and we still go up quite often to our family farm and cabin. If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is definitely the place. And it's beautiful!?

  • One place we loved was Savage River Lodge. http://www.savageriverlodge.com/          It's about 4 hours away. You can get your own cabin with a loft and front porch and can have breakfast delivered to the cabin. Their food is first rate as well. And if you have a pup, they allow doggies, too. While we were there, we checked out a winery or too. They also have a lot of outdoor activities you can sign up to do.

If wineries are your thing, there are plenty of places to stay in the Brandywine region and that's only 2hours or less away.

There is also the Poconos, Philly, Balitmore, Virginia, DC... you could do NYC as well. Philly and NYC are super easy to get the train if you don't want to drive. Various places in Maryland or Delaware as well.

What type of area are you looking for? Ocean, lake, woodsie, urban...that will help us give you better ideas.

  • DH and I were just talking about this over the weekend because we were trying to plan a small trip for our anniversary as well. The ideas everyone listed were ones we were thinking of. There is also Nemicolin resort near Pittsburgh. I looked into it and it looks beautiful but it is on the expensive side.
  • Wow! Thank's so much ladies! This has been a huge help! I'm looking at the savage River Lodge website right now. It's tough to pinpoint a place 'cause while i'm the "quiet and romance" type, he's the "concerts and going out" type. haha.
