hey, dh and i took advantage of the sherwin williams sale this weekend and picked up some paint for our kitchen cabinets. we did get the proclassic like you suggested. do you have any advice on painting cabinets? i would love to hear about your experience. thanks!!
Re: jjenkins
That's great! This is what I found with the proclassic...
1. Use a roller for as much of it as possible. I used different sized foam rollers for most of mine. You don't want to do too much with a brush because you can get brush marks.
2. Fight the urge to continually touch it up while its wet. Because its self-leveling it will potentially look a little funny while it's "doing its thing". You can actually overwork it very easily then you'll end up needing to touch it up because you'll end up pushing the paint. (I have some spots where DH "helped" and this happened..LOL...so I have to do some touch ups)
These were my steps:
1. Wipe down outsides of door panels to remove any dirt/grease/oils from cooking.
2. Sand door panels (I did 2 sandings on mine because I wanted to make sure I got as much of the poly clear coat off as possible)
3. Clean sanding debris off doors.
4. Prime. I did 2 coats of primer on the front and back of the door panels but I would base it on how your coverage looks when its dry between coats.
5. Paint. I did 2 coats of paint on the fronts of the door panels and 1 on the insides of the doors. Just be careful moving the door panels around because since the paint will be fresh you can nick the paint more easily then later when its fully cured.
if you have more questions just let me know!
