  • yes. 6-1 in favor of upholding Prop 8. The 18K marriages that were performed will still be valid.

    Totally agree. :(

  • Huge California FAIL.
  • :( but not surprised. We were talking this over at R's uncle's house last week with his partner & their friends and they all figured it would go this way. If nothing else, it got the subject out there & talked about and with more of the vote shifting towards equal rights, it should pass the next go around (even though it's sad that California being known for being so progressive will be in the middle-to-late part of the pack on passing this).

  • Apparently, we have to wait for the baby boomers to die off before we're able to become a truly progressive state.

Exactly my thoughts. Long term I'm not worried about this issue since I think our generation is much more progressive. But it still makes me still prejudice can still be legislated.

Sadly, the only way to defeat the Mormon Church on issues like this is to get more educated and liberal voters to actually show up and vote. The Mormon Church has been and will continue growing like a weed. All of my Mormon friends have a TON of children, who will all grow up to vote exactly how the church wants them to, while pouring millions of dollars from their pay checks in to their political campaigns via tithing.

Totally agree, I work with a bunch of them and it's amazing the power that church has over its members.

  • I'm so upset by this ruling.

At least the marriages that did take place are to remain legal, small consolation that it is.
