Mother and daughter have been missing for more than 24 hours

  by David Henry

PHILADELPHIA - May 27, 2009 (WPVI) -- Video surveillance at Philadelphia International Airport captured Bonnie Sweeten and Julia Rakoczy boarding a plane late Tuesday. That plane was heading to Tampa, Florida.

Police are now saying that effectively dismisses Sweeten's claim that she and her daughter were abducted.

This all began shortly before 2:00 p.m. Tuesday when Sweeten called 911 to say she had been in a car crash. She claimed a pair of men abducted her and her 9-year-old daughter, and stole her SUV.

Police found the SUV early Wednesday morning at 15th and Chestnut in Center City Philadelphia.

Re: Abduction was a hoax

  • I knew something was fishy about that whole story!  There is no way they could have made it from Southampton into Center City in 20 minutes at that time of day.

And I don't know about you but if I'm going to carjack and kidnap someone and throw them into my trunk, I'm going to make sure they don't have a cell on them.  Just sayin...

  • Sometimes I really wonder what goes through their brains to make them think that they'd actually get away with this.

I agree.  I guess they just hope that investigators dont catch on until they have had ample time to get away.  Crazy.
  • That woman is insane. That poor little girl :(
  • They found them at Disney World.  Apparently the woman seems to be in some trouble with possibly stealing $ from her employer.

  • Unreal. I thought it all sounded fishy from the beginning. Everything didn't match up. People really are dumb.
