I think I want to grow out my hair.

At least somewhat.  Of course, every time I think that, I think "I like my hair shorter though... but it would be nice to be able to throw it in a ponytail again...or put it up again... or have that many options again!"

Pros and cons to growing out or keeping it short?

Re: I think I want to grow out my hair.

  • If you have time to do your hair in the morning, I think the extra length wouldn't be bad.  My problem is that I'm stuck in a pony tale routine.  I run out of time in the morning and either throw my hair in the dreaded pony tale or bun.

  • I am growing mine out right now, the prenatals I take have really helped it grow.

The only con I can think of is when it is longer it takes longer to blow dry, style and costs more to color and highlight.  A pro is what you already mentioned, then you can put it up in a ponytail or updo and I just feel that if it's a bit longer you have more options on how to style it.

  • I don't usually blow dry my hair in the morning; if it's that wet, it is fine enough it dries insanely quick.  In fact, at this length, I have increasingly fallen back on blow-drying because that's the only way I can seem to get it to do something without the fall-back of pulling my bangs back.  Of course,... blow-drying doesn't work for my hair (it looks good for all of 5 minutes and then flops. LOL)
  • I was actually coming to do a hair post! ?I can't decide. ?Grow it out or cut it off again. ?Ponytails are nice but I always have to fix my hair anyway.

I don't blow dry my hair - I wash it at night. ?When my hair is long it's more unruly and I have a harder time fixing it. ?I think I'll cut mine again...?

  • I'm growing mine out again.  I got it cut short last time and I liked it, but I want my long hair again.  I always had short hair until college I started to grow it out.  It took forever.  It does take longer to blow dry and style, but I don't mind.  Will you grow your bangs out too?  I love my side swept bangs both for my short and long hair.

This.  Mine used to be less poofy after sleeping when it was long - the slightly heavier weight must've held it down. LOL

My bangs are basically grown out, but it's the only way I can describe the mini-poof when they're pulled back. LOL  The last time I got my hair cut, she actually evened it out so my "bangs" are now like 1/2" shorter than the rest of my hair.  So no bangs for me - they don't work.  And I hate how my forehead breaks out from them and all the extra styling they require.  I'm more of a "throw some gel in, flat iron the front, and go" kind of girl.

And I think I'm going to try and grow it out again.  At least a few more inches.  I miss this hairstyle:

  • So, comparing that pic with your siggy pic...I like your hair better short. ?Of course, this isn't my decision but I think your face looks prettier with the shorter style.
  • I know, Mandy.. its tough because there's at least 20 pounds difference from that pic to my siggy pic as well. Tongue Tied
  • I was going to grow my hair out again, but I couldn't handle it.  Now it's shorter than ever...the back is prob ~1 inch long and the top is 1.5-2 inches long.  Love it though...it takes me 10 mins to get it done.

I do like the versatility of long hair though...but I know myself and I won't do it.  The last time it was long, I'd go to sleep with it wet and call it good in the morning...it really wasn't though.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • c'mon Val.. that's what I do half the time when I have long hair! LOL

But short hair... it's so much work, it feels like.  My hair HATES style, apparently because unless its long it refuses to obey or takes tons of time to do.  I would love to keep it above my shoulders, except everything I try is more work than I'm willing to put into it!

  • I think you look great with shorter hair but I know what you mean about it seeming like more work. I prefer my hair longer so I can just dry it and go. Now that it's shorter I have to make sure I style it. Too much work for me! LOL!

  • I'm opposite of you guys. ?With short hair, I spend MAYBE 5 minutes on it and I'm ready to go (that's straightening it in the mornings). ?With long hair, I spend about 30 minutes on it because I have a crazy poof that pops up once my hair gets past my shoulders!
  • I've been growing my hair out, it's past my shoulders now (the prenatals have made it grow insanely quick) and I much prefer longer hair to shorter hair.  For me, shorter hair is a lot of maintenance.  I had to pretty much wash it every day.  I wash my hair every other day now.  I love how pony tails look.  Head bands with a slight curl to my hair.  Or by itself straight.  It's all one length (including bangs) and so quick to blow dry.
