I know a bunch of you are runners and wanted to pass along that Luke's Locker's marathon and half marathon training programs are starting up on June 13. The programs are geared toward running Dallas White Rock Full or Half in December, but participants sometimes choose to run other races as well. Each participant is placed in a group of similar paced folks with similar goals. There are walk to run programs and walking programs too!
I'm a coach in the Plano groups (volunteer) and have loved their training programs. If you are thinking about running a marathon or half this year, I would encourage you to check this out. There are info sessions at all Luke's locations this week and next. They have locations in Dallas, Plano, Colleyville, and Ft. Worth. Visit www.lukeslocker.com for more info or page me and I'll help however I can.
I've enjoyed the camarederie of running with a group. There are other programs in the area too and several nesties have participated in the various groups. Good luck!
Re: Runners - Training Programs Starting Soon
April - Thanks!!!
I have been wanting to get more active. ?This looks like the perfect way to do it. ?You said that there are a lot of different groups... is there a group of people who have never run a marathon?? ? And what are the groups like? ?I work in sports and my schedule changes week-to-week so I can't ever commit to anything. ?
I can't really find much on the website... is there someone with the organization I can email?
Thanks again - this sounds fun!!!!?
Do you know which location would be most convenient for you? I'll try to get you an email contact.
Here's a link to the registration form: http://www.lukeslocker.com/TheNews/post.aspx?ID=98
Awesome! Thanks!
I live in addison, spend a ton of time in plano/frisco...?
I did this program last year and completed 3 half-marathons last winter.
?I will be joining the Fort Worth group (by TCU) this summer, so if anyone joins, I'll be there! ?I'm a big slowpoke so don't worry about being slow or if you've never done it before. ?I am proof that ANYONE can do it. ?:-)
My Mom and friend from school run in the Colleyville early full-marathon group. ?
I highly recommend any of these types of programs because 1) they give you schedules and tell you exactly how to train 2) you get lots of support from others with the same goal and 3) accountability to stick w/ your goals.?
Oh, that's easy. I train at the Plano location. Contact Patton Gleason: pattongleason@lukeslocker.com
There is an info session tomorrow night at the Plano store at 7p. I will be there, so let me know if you're planning to attend and I'll look for you!
I'm no where near close to even half marathon training, but I've been in a heat funk. Ugh. Not sure if I can keep up with it during the summer!
We run EARLY (6am) before the heat kicks in, so if you can commit to getting up early before work to do your runs, it's not so bad. ??
That would be ME!!!
I LOVED Lukes! I had never ever run before and finished the half after following their program. I could go on and on about it, but my brain is fried these days. If you have a question about the program, I'd love to help answer.
I think the best thing you get there is the friendships you build...also, having to PAY for it, motivated me to stick to it...the motivation from your group - you know who didn't do their weekly runs based on their saturday runs.
Okay....crying babies....ARGH!!!
Just as another FYI, the dallas running club has their fall 1/2 and full marathon training plans starting soon. Theirs is $25 for members. (membership is $25 too). I thought about it, but I'm going to continue to build fitness until next year, then start training. Or maybe I'll run a half, but just continue training by myself.
