Trip to Orlando?

My family and I  are going to Orlando for a week and I need some suggestions on the best parks. We definately want to do Universal and Island of Adventure but we want to pick a good water park because I know it's going to be hot and humid. I am thinking Aquatica or Wet and Wild since we will be in that area. I am also wondering if its possible to do Island of Adventure and Universal in the same day.

We also need some ideas on what to do at nights and restaurant suggestions if you have any. TIA!

Re: Trip to Orlando?

  • Hey there,

I think you can do Universal and IOA in one day. We just recently went to Universal got there when it opened and was done by 2:00. There really isn't much there. IOA has more things and it could take all day if you wanted it to.

As for water parks, I haven't been to either Wet n Wild or Aquatica, but have heard Aquatica is great and have also been told Wet n Wild can be kinda dirty. Disney's Typhoon Lagon and Blizzard Beach are both awesome water parks. Typhoon has a water coaster that is really fun and Blizzard Beach has a huge crazy water slide.

Resturant suggestions are harder for me b/c we don't usually eat down near Universal/IOA area. However there is a Maggianos down there that is beyond good. There are also a lot of other common chains such as TGI Fridays, Chilis, Outback and such.

As for night time entertainment I am not sure if you will ahve kiddos with you but there are great movie theatres both at City Walk which is near Universal/IOA and at Downtown Disney with tons of shopping. The outlets are open until 11pm, and lots of little mini golft/go kart places.

If you don't have kiddos I would check out Howl at the Moon its a cool club with dualing pianos. If your into country music we LOVE Cowboys on OBT Saturday nights.

    HTH!
  • Thanks so much DisneyGirlie! I have heart Wet and Wild is not too well kept so we will be skipping that one. I think I will try and do Universal and IOA in a day so we can visit the three water parks. Nothing better than water on a hot summers day. I definately want to check out City Walk at night. I heard there is a great karoke bar that I think will be fun. What type of stores do they have down there.
  • Down at City Walk there is a huge Quicksilver store which I refer to as flipflop heaven. There is a Fossil store as well but it is being remodeled. Also there is a Nascar place and a basketball place. There are some good resturants at City Walk too. Magaritaville is one of our faves, but there is also Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory, and I think NASCAR City has a resturant, and theres Hard Rock.

I would go to IOA first. That way if you don't make it to Universal your life will not end I promise. The Simpsons ride is cool, and we like Shrek but other then that... lol. At IOA there is the Hulk, Dueling Dragons, Spiderman is AWESOME, Cat in the Hat, Jurrasic Park, Popeye (you get wet!), Red Fish Blue Fish. A lot more things to do a lot newer park. Great ice cream lol.
  • I've heard Aquatica is quite nice.  I've been to Blizzard Beach too and its kinda fun.

I like IOA a lot.  Universal Studios can be fun too.

Also, Downtown Disney isn't too far from that area which can be fun at night with Rain forrest Cafe and some of the shops are nice.  You can also do Pleasure Island which can be fun (sans kiddos).

If you want to see the real Orlando, at night downtown around Church Street can be fun (again w/o kiddos).

Also, for restaurant ideas, try Bahama Breeze.  Its a chain but quite good.  Also, at downtown Disney is Bongos which is great Cuban food.
