Ladies who had kids without insurance

I know there were a couple people on here who said they had a baby when they didn't have maternity coverage.

Will any doctor see you without insurance and just require you to pay them in a certain way or do you have to call around to a bunch of different doctors?

If all doctors won't see you, will you tell me what doctor you used?

Any information would be much appreciated!

Re: Ladies who had kids without insurance

  • Our insurance doesn't cover maternity unless there is a problem with the pregnancy, whatever that means. I'm going to the OB of my choice just down the street and he accepts people with out ins. He's in Richardson. For his OB pre-natal fees and delivery he charges $3250 and $382 per sono. You pay $500 up front and then montly payments of $500 until the balance is paid in full and the final payment is due by the EDD. But, he is giving a $750 credit if you finish paying 60 days prior to your EDD, which is what we're doing. That doesn't include hospital stay, nursery care, blood tests, anesthesia fees, etc. It gets pretty expensive. HTH!
  • Our company doesn't offer insurance, and you know all the private individual plans don't offer maternity. Well, Assurant is the only one. We just switched to them yesterday.

We have a $5k maternity deductible. Yes, that's high, but we figured that would be better than having nothing and risking the chance of huge bills if there were complications or something. The way it works is we pay out of pocket up to the $5k, but we're billed for the charges at up to 40% less than the original price. (does that make sense?) Then after the $5k is reached Assurant covers everything 100%.

  • I go to Patricia Harris on Washington downtown.... I know their fee is like $3385.... and they do accept cash patients. They require all to be paid by the 5th month. We have insurance but it isnt very good.... but this is what they told me yesterday.
  • Both OBs I went to charged about $3k paid before 30-something weeks....more if after.  $300-ish for sonos.  Just tell them you are a cash customer.

Also, check to see if your insurance covers "Complications due to pregnancy" I had no idea that my crappy insurance did have that....i was shocked.  Its better than nothing! :)

I ended up with a midwife.  Same cost, sonos only $150 and no hospital bill. ;)

  • Seriously thrilled for you if this is what I think it is.  I'll keep my excitement in check until you make an official announcement though!  :)
  • We pay $3500 cash in $500 a month increments (this is for a c-section.)
