For those who received their AC in teaching...

How hard was it to get a job without your test results?  My DH is sitting for his test in Comp Science tomorrow and then attending a job fair on Fri.  We have been told that it takes up to four weeks to get the results.  Can he still apply for jobs without the results or will he just be spinning his wheels?  This is all new territory for us.  He is changing careers after 16 years because he has not been able to find a job since Sept except for a small job that did not last very long in Feb.  Thanks for all your advice!

Re: For those who received their AC in teaching...

  • MY DH is changing careers too, and although not getting AC, many districts wouldn't even look at him until he'd either completed the AC course, or his content exam....

Not saying all districts are like this... but many were.

What job fair is your DH attending?  The one DH was going to before was cancelled due to swine flu, and not rescheduled....

  • I went to a job fair before I had one of my test results in.  I just put on my resume that is was expected and explained to everyone that I had taken the test and the results should be in soon.  Most online applications will let you go in and change your information, so that shouldn't really be a problem once he gets his scores if he wants to go ahead and apply with districts.
  • He can go ahead and apply and interview for stuff, but if there's another candidate available that's already certified, they have to hire the other candidate, even if they like your DH better of the 2. Just keep that in mind as he's going through the process. ?Given as tight as things are this year with hiring, it's good that he's taking advantage of any job fairs that are going on. Good luck to him!
