Calling all moms!

I need suggestions for baby shower gift ideas.

A friend is due in the beginning of August and her shower is over 4th of July (just got the invite yesterday). She's registered at Babies R Us, but i'm wondering if you ladies remember unique gifts you got that;

-you didn't register for

-you registered for and *loved*

-you didn't/did register for, got it and had no idea how much you'd love it!

TIA!!

Re: Calling all moms!

  • My cousin actually gave me her sling, which was SO much better than the mei tai that I had registered for (& received).

    Once DD was born I got a personalized book from DH's co-workers.  I can't remember the company for sure, but I think it was iseeme.com or something like that.  It was a total surprise, but very touching.

    Whatever you decide to do though, PLEASE, for the love of God & all that's holy, give her the GIFT RECEIPTS.

    Although I very much appreciated the gifts I got at the shower from my co-workers, virtually NONE of it was from my registry.  Most of it was either duplicate of stuff I already got or not the right color to match w/the nursery, stuff like that.  I didn't want to look bad, so I tried to return or exchange a lot of it w/o the GR.  At 8 months pg, I really didn't have the energy for that & I would have been so thankful to have just gotten what I actually registered for.

    Also, if you know it's a girl, for instance, try not to go overboard getting NB size pink frilly stuff.  They grow out of it in a matter of days.  If you want to get clothes, get 6 month size or larger & keep in mind the season it will be when the baby gets to that age.

    HTH!

  • Well said Christine, I was also going to recommend something that keeps the baby stationary with out having to hold them. IE a bouncer or swing. It is so hard to get things done with out having a safe place that keeps them upright to look around with out having to be in the arms of a parent or other human, when you have to do something as simple as GO TO THE RESTROOM!
