tricks to folding fitted sheets

I have a Cal King bed and am fed up with having my fitted sheet haphazardly folded and crammed into my linen closet.  Does any one have any tricks to folding fitted sheets neatly?

Re: tricks to folding fitted sheets

  • Check out Martha Stewat's instructions for folding a fitted sheet (google should pull it up).  My linen "closet" (read: shelf - *sigh* the joys of living in a Manhattan apartment) is MUCH neater now that I've started folding them that way.
  • The key is to take the elastic out of the equation and make a normal square of sheet, not elastic, edges.

The first thing you'll do is tuck the corners from one whole side into the corners from the other side. If you're doing this by yourself, lay the sheet on the floor for this.

Take your hands and put them in each of 2 corners on one side, such as the 2 corners that would be on the bottom of th bed. You put your index fingers right into the corners. Then you fold the sheet in half, taking the other corners (the ones at the top), turn them inside out, and tuck in and fold the corners over. in the same direction.  Now you would have a sheet folded in half, and all the elastic on the top side, and the fitted part is on the left side, the top, and the right side.

Now you'll fold from left to right. Take the top left corner, and turn the corner inside out so you can tuck it into the top right corner.  Now you should have a rectangle, with a sheet edge on the bottom and the left, and the fitted bunch is on the top and the right. This will make it much easier to start folding.

Fold the longer side first -- in thirds -- the thinner edge in towards the fitted edge, so that it meets near the elastic in the middle.  Then fold the long strip in thirds or half/half again.

    Should be much neater! HTH!

  • I found the Martha Stewart directions, but I still couldn't do it right. There are a zillion great youtube videos on it though, much more helpful!
  • I put all our sheets away in a matching pillow case- so I fold the sheet, fitted sheet, and one pillow case and put them all inside the other pillow case.  While the fitted sheet isnt really folded any neater, the closet stays neat and its easy to grab a whole set of sheets really quickly.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I have the same problem, I've just tacked it up to a lost cause for myseld :( I'll never learn.
