So I might be one of the only people in the world that thinks this story is funny but it brought me to tears when she told it to me. Please remember that my MIL speaks English but it is a little broken (it's not part of the story but may be useful information).
Anywho, one day we were sitting in the kitchen by ourselves and she tells me that she fell into the garbage can. I was like what? I must have mis-understood her. So she repeats herself and says that she was washing the inside of the big city garbage can (they're probably like 4 feet tall and in the shape of a rectangle), when she was done, she was wealing it back into the yard (it was infront of her, she was pushing it forward with the lid not closed). Well it got stuck and the momentum of pushing it caused her to lunge forward and land head first into the bottom of the garbage can. Well it falls over and she is stuck inside with ther feet hanging out of the top. Please note that the inside of the garbage can is still wet from her washing it. Well she proceeds to tell me that she kept trying to shimmy out but couldn't get any traction in the inside. I guess she eventually got out but was afraid that her neighbors were going to find her in the garbage can.
So, she and I are the only one's hearing this story. I'm turning purple trying not to laugh because she didn't find it funny and was just telling me how horrible it was. DH walks into the room and I lose it. He's like what's so funny and through tears and laughter I tell him that his mom fell into a garbage can and got stuck. He's like what?!? By now the rest of the family has come into the kitchen for dinner. I'm crying and she re-tells the story in Polish. I continue laughing to the point of hysteria. I think it was made worse because nobody else found it funny and thought I was crazy for laughing. His mom actually hit me (playing around) to stop laughing at her.
I guess I just found the mental image of my MIL flailing about in a garbage can with her white gym shoes poking out hysterical. DH and I were talking about this story yesterday and I was once again in tears. He, on the otherhand, didn't understand why.
the garbage can looks like this

Re: LOL story re my MIL
Paula, I'm glad it made someone else laugh as much as me. While I was typing it out at work I started laughing to myself and my cube neighbor was like, are you ok. Yeah, taxes aren't supposed to be funny like that. So I had to tell her the story and she started laughing as she imagnined it happening to her own MIL
