WWYD? Wedding related

Good/old friend of mine was engaged to this guy "T" for 2 years, and in January she broke up with him, their wedding was set for May 2nd.

In Feb. she meets "M" and in March she gets engaged, to be married to "M" the first week in August (3 weeks after my EDD)

I was supposed to be the MOH, and she went ahead and got the BM's dresses. I couldn't fit into them, but because I was the MOH it didn't matter and I could wear whatever.

Now that the wedding is in August I stepped down as the MOH and have been looking for a dress to match/similar. The bride kept saying "you can wear WHATEVER, swets for all I care"- Totally not what she means, but the thought is nice.

I have been looking for a dress in "champagne" (the color of the other girls) and I just can't find one that won't cost $200+ after rush ordering and shipping. I asked the bride today if I could wear black (the other wedding color) and she her reply wasn't "sure!" so I know that she isn't thrilled.

What should I do? Step out of the wedding? Buy the $200 dress?

I feel like the bride doesn't need this stress, and I don't need this stress right now either, but I want her to be happy too.

TIA!

Re: WWYD? Wedding related

  • wow that's a pretty crazy timeline.

I think I would feel more comfortable just stepping out of the wedding. With it being so close to your due date you just never know what could happen. Maybe you could offer to read a poem or something at the wedding. That way in case for whatever reason you can't make it there won't be this hole in the bridal party

  • I'm in between on this. I was in your wedding 6 weeks pp and was okay. I think you will deliver early, but of course we can't be sure. You can end up going late and being like 10 days pp at the time of the wedding. I would probably step out of the wedding. Can she find a replacement to make the wedding party even?

  • That's a rough one, sorry.  I think I would probably step out of the wedding, as hard as it would be.  Good luck with what you decide.

  • Oh gosh, I don't know. I'm leaning towards stepping down as it's quite close to your due date. Let us know what you decide!

  • It's pretty close to your due date but from my experiance, I felt great until I delivered. I was in my brothers wedding 2 months before I delivered & made sure to wear short heels. I would talk to her about the expense. I helped out a bm w/their cost. If she really wants you in the wedding (being asked to be moh is pretty big) I think she would offer to pay.
  • That is a tuff one. $200 is a lot for a dress but even if it was a regular bm dress you'd probably only wear it once. How much did the other bm's spend? The fact that she said you could wear whatever makes me think she really wants you there for the wedding so maybe she'll pitch in? I really hope it works out.

  • Have you tried ebay or the thrift store? I found a (regular) BM dress for $30 with shipping instead of the $90+ at the store....
  • The other BM paid $50 for their dress (she got them on sale, but they didn't have my size).

The hard part is trying to "match" the other girls with color, style and fabric as much as possible.

I looked on the internet for a cheaper one, but trying to shop 8 months pregnant is tough. Nothing fits and you can't try it on.

Doubt the bride will help with the cost, she is having a backyard wedding and trying to save as much money as possible.

I'm going to look today @ David's and then call the bride and see what we can do.

    Thanks ladies!

  • The dress I wore was made out of chifon. I bought it at Nordstrom. Check them out. :D good luck!
