Does your family doctor get you in?
I love my family doctor, but every time something comes up, he is fully booked unable to take us in for days or weeks, and are told to go to a walk in. DH had a bad ear infection, blew his ear drum and was in excruciating pain and was told to go to a walk in.
I was really sick since the weekend and called to see him yesterday and the secretary basically told me he was fully booked but because and only because I am pg she squeezed me in with another doctor in in the office.
I went yesterday at noon and waited half an hour and in that half an hour I saw my own dr only take one patient and the rest he spent doing administrative stuff which really ticked me off (by the way, he is also my OB and delivered Alex).
He noticed me sitting there and asked the secretary who I had an appointment with (as he knew it wasn't with him) and when she told him it was with another doctor, he was surprised and asked how that happened. In the end, he ended up seeing me, but I am still ticked with the office, how things are handled and a bit disappointed with my doctor.
He is so fully booked all the time that it's impossible to get in to see him. When I got pg, I couldn't see him for 3 weeks because he was so booked. Typically, when I have an appointment, I am seen by a resident and only get a few minutes with him. To me that's just wrong that he is so overworked that he can't dedicate the kind of time to his patients that they deserve, or see them for weeks should a concern arise. Aghr.
I love my doctor, but the service is starting to really get to me.
Re: When you are sick and need to see the dr on the same day...
wow, that's awful.
I love my doctor's secretary - I have called and always I get in for the same day, if it's urgent. She'll even put me in right before the after-lunch appointments, so I can sneak DD in and out quickly.
Makes me thankful about my doctor. I think I will send both him and the secretary a card (they just moved to another floor, with more treatment rooms and a bigger waiting area - and it's kickas$). Just to say - thinking of ya, and I like you
OMG, poor Joshua. The one thing I am so thankful for is that our pedi's office is amazing, anytime anything comes up, we are seen the same day, sometimes given an appointment within a few hours. One day I left a mssg at 6am, and they called me back at 7:30am and was asked if I could be there by 8am.
I guess I was just upset because my sister's and mom's family doctor (they see the same person) is so different and fits them in without any issues the same day.
My dr leaves urgent appts open so that if you call early enough in the day you can still get in.
My bro's GF's dr is like yours. She called when she POAS to get everything confirmed and it was over a month before she could be 'squeezed in' for an appt.
Happy Easter

This is why I 1) don't have a family doctor and 2) only go to the doctor's office if I'm basically dying. I always go to a walk in.
I have an OBGYN that will take me at any time if something comes up that I would need to see them for. I think doctors are too busy with "regular stuff" to have to deal with the specifics of being pregnant as well.
Both my GP and the pedi are awesome, we are very fortunate. If we call and it is urgent we get in right away. My GP always has a few urgent spots or like Nat said will sneak us/me in at the after lunch appointment.
DH on the other hand has a different GP and it is so hard for him to get in so we have had to take him to the medicenter before and on a very rare occassion, my GP has taken him in.
Nope, we never end up getting in on the same day. I usually end up having to go to a medicentre or DH 's Dr who takes walk-ins after 4:00pm. I hate the medical system these days b/c of that.
