Can you please tell me more about this "Creighton method?"

It sounds like something I'd be interested in trying.

Re: *Blondie22*

  • Hi Nat!

With Creighton model, you basically just monitor your CM.  Every time you go to the bathroom, shower, etc. you wipe to check your CM externally.  So you are never checking your BBT, checking your cervical position... only monitoring your CM.  At the end of every day you record the CM you observed (well really, the most fertile CM you observed).   I.e., at end of day I had observed EWCM that stretched more than 1 inch (which corresponds to a certain CM score) once that day.  Observations include CM consistency/stretchability, colour, sensation when you wiped, etc.  If you're TTC, obviously you'd have sex on the days with fertile CM (clear, stretchy, or slippery).  If you're charting to avoid you would abstain or use alternate birth control during the days of fertile CM and 3 days after.

It sounds a little onerous always classifying your CM, but once you're used to it, it's second nature and you don't have to really think about it.

  • How did you learn how to do it? Did you teach your self or do a class??

    ~Katie~

  • I could do that! I'm not for the temp taking, etc... I'd lose the information.

That sounds like when I was TTC. I was watching my cervical mucus and when it was EWCM that's when we "tried." That worked! So hopefully if I try it this way, plus the method we are already using, we should be pretty lucky in avoiding pregnancy for a while.

I'm hoping to wait until D is 2 until we try again.

  • I had to take a class for a couple hours, and then had a few follow-up sessions with the teacher so she could answer any questions and make sure I was doing it properly.

Long story: My Dr. at the time forced me to take the class before she would start doing any blood tests to investigate my infertility.  My Dr. was a major supporter of the use of Creighton model.  I later found out that Dr. doesn't believe in IVF (due to her own religious beliefs) and would never refer me to the fertility clinic...which was upsetting.  I continued to use the Creighton model though because it's easy and helped identify a few minor problems that I was able to work with my new Dr. on.
