Major hip pain

Since my BFP I have had really bad pain in my hips, it was mainly the right one and now it has moved to my left.  I had mentioned it to my GP and he said I probably just pulled a muscle but that was it.  But this has been happening for so long I don't think that is what it is any more, it's in a really hard place to describe and at time it hurts so bad that I get shooting pain all the way down to my knees.  I do plan on mentioning it to my OB when I go back in two weeks but, has anyone ever experience this with pregnancy?

hmm, I have a weird nerve thing that might be similar.  It started a while ago, but it's definitely been happening more frequently since getting pregnant.

It feels like it's starting almost between my hip and ovary and then goes down to my knee the outside of my ankle.  Is that similar?

  • No not really, the pain is more in my butt and I guess it alternates both sides of my tailbone, maybe hip pain isn't quite accurate.

  • Isn't that sciatic pain? I thought that radiated down your hips and could go down your leg as well. No clue. Does anything make it feel better?

  • I for sure had it, but mine was also related to sciatic pain...sorry not much help!  Rest it up as much as you possibly can!

If it's going down your butt and through the back of your leg to your knee, it's sciatica and it sucks :(

Would you say it stems from around the area where your belt would normally run across?  (assuming you're not wearing some super high waisted jeans)

The only stretches I found that help arent' really conducive to pregnancy.  Try baths or swimming, the bouyancy helps.  You might want to also see a chiropractor for a lower back adjustment.  A massage therapist can help with the knots in the butt and thighs and I've also found that acupuncture is extremely helpful for sciatica.

Also, ice the area on your back where it stems from (around the belt line).  Heat feels better, but ice works better.  Heating your butt and leg will work though.

  • I started feeling similar hip pain with this pg when I was about 30 weeks.  My Dr said that b/c Lexi was breech it comtributed more to the hip pain b/c of the way her bum and legs were sitting in my pelvis.  I only had that kind of pain when I was pg with Julian ince he had dropped( at about 41 weeks!)
  • I'm dealing with something similar, more in my tailbone. I honestly don't know if it's pregnancy related though since I have fibromyalgia. With hip pain though I try to do lots of stretching, use heat (like a wheat bag), or even alternate hot and cold compress. Massage can be really helpful too.
