Day Camp Poll (XP)
I am a supervisor for a Day Camp this summer and I need to come up
with my camp plans for the full 8 weeks today. I am running low on
ideas! Help!
Who went to Day Camp when they were a kid?
What were your favorite activities, sports to play, crafts?

Maybe have the younger ones make something for their dad's for Father's Day? I always remember making something for my mom for Mother's day when I was in school, but Father's day always fell after school was over.
I'll keep thinking of some other ideas...
Check out the Family Fun website. I get the magazine and it full of ideas for crafts and games.
Theme ideas: summer solstice, Father's Day, 4th of July, etc.
We had some contests. I like the bubble blowing one....course that could be 'cause I won it
making tie-dye tshirts
wheelbarrow or sack races---prizes could be coupons for the snackbar or place they can get treats/drinks/etc.
how about theme days or weeks? this is easy to plan a lot of activities around a central idea. Do you have to do the same activities for all of the kids though? Obviously plans/themes for primary kids and 13 year olds would need to be different to keep their attention.

Megan's idea is a perfect one, Abbie. I was a director with the Hbg Y's program (counselor for several years, too) and we always planned it by doing theme weeks. It made it far easier to plan/research activities, gave the kids something to get excited about and look forward to, and oftentimes, for the weeks later in the summer, we'd let them contribute ideas for activities, as well. The older kids especially loved being able to "help" in this way, and it made it easier to come up with ways to differentiate activities or themes based on age. Megan's list is pretty similar to ones I've used before.

I love those ideas... they already have themes planned for us though (the director of all of the camps). It kind of stinks because I don't really like some of the themes but I can't change them. I wish I could beacuse some of these are awesome (like beach week!).
Ooo! I can suggest that for part of the talent show I am planning (the puppet show).
I am supervising one of the Spring Garden Twp camps, but this is my first year doing it so I don't know anyone else. All of my counselors are young. (HS and 1 college student)
