People with white gold rings come in!

Do you get them re-dipped in rhodium?  The jeweler who made mine (cousin) used to do it for free, but now I have moved out of town and need to get it done again.  I stopped by a store yesterday and they wanted $30 per ring.  I thought that was kind of high, I dunno?  Do you pay to have it done....and if so, how much?

 TIA!

Re: People with white gold rings come in!

  • I do...but I haven't had it done in a LONG time, so I'm not sure how much it cost...that doesn't really sounds unreasonable to me....I think they have to take all the stones out to do it

I have mine dipped yearly, but we bought an extended warranty package that covers it.  Maybe see if the store offers something like that.  Ours was $25 per ring for 3 years and covered yearly dipping and polishing, repairs and replacement of stones of lost.
  • I get them dipped once a year, but we bought at People's so I get it done for free since I bought the lifetime warranty. That let's me get them cleaned and inspected every six months and then dipped once a year if they look grungy, plus replacement etc etc. I don't think that price is too high, but then again, I don't know since I haven't had to pay for mine. Worth it though..makes them look so nice and shiny and new!
  • I've never had that done on mine. Not even sure what it is.

  • Sounds about right to me.
  • I haven't had mine done, but I need to.  My white gold band is starting to look pretty yellow next to the platinum e-ring.  I don't think $30 is unreasonable.
  • I haven't had mine dipped, but that sounds about right. I have engraving on the inside so I'm not sure if I get it dipped if I lose the engraving?

Nope, it will still be there.  You should get it done.  You won't believe how amazing and sparkly your rings look!

  • Ok, thanks!  I guess compared to "free" $60 seemed kind of steep.  I used to take advantage of that and go in every 3-4 months to have it done but I guess I will have to cut back to once a year or so, like you girls said....

Awesome! I'm going to take it in to our jeweler when we are in Montreal again. I have had them cleaned and polished, but I can't wait to see what it looks after getting it dipped.

Ditto...I didn't know I was supposed to be doing this.

  • Basically your rings start to turn "yellowish/gold", usually you can see it most where they rub together.  You probably don't really notice it until you see one that is not yellowish.  You can have it re-dipped in rhodium which re-coats it and makes it silvery again.

Interesting. I might have to look into this some more.

  • I do not have to ever have mine done mine has Pladium right in the ring so it will never turn yellow, DH was thinking. As for DH we have to have his done yearly and $35 is what we paid last time for it.  So that sound pretty reasonable to me.  GL.

  • I've had mine done once, and it was for free the first time....they told me next time it will be about $35...I think that's sort of the standard.
