Advice?

I just got an email from one of the K teachers at my morning school. My afternoon school was at the farm today all day and my morning class is going next week.

This teacher emailed me saying that the third K teacher at my morning school doesn't want to charge the volunteers going on our field trip the fee for enterance on the farm which is 5.25 a person. Instead, she wants to pay for her volunteers herself and she feels we should all do the same. The teacher who emailed me is okay with either way. I had let my parents know that they were going to have to pay like my parents at my afternoon class did today.

The parents who have volunteered to come so far have paid already and I really don't think that I should have to pay for my volunteers but I don't know that I really want to go against these other teachers.

Thoughts?

Re: Advice?

  • How soon next week?

I would say "oh shoot, I had already collected the money from the volunteers,"

    OR

I would also say "I'd feel bad for the volunteers who already went today with my afternoon class - I can't cover one and not the other. That's not fair to them."

  • I would say that they have already paid, but you will do something else to show your thanks for their help. (buy them a coffee, get them a card etc.)

    I like this.

I'm probably late to this, but the PPs gave good suggestions.  For future trips, I don't understand why the school wouldn't automatically add the cost for volunteers onto each child's fee.  It makes sense to me, as no one would be able to go without the help of the volunteers.  And whereas 3 volunteers at $6 each is steep to you, adding it on to each child, would mean a minimal increase.  Say 3 volunteers, at $6, with 20 kids = less than 90 cents per child.

I like this... and Nat's idea.
