Fun Baby Shower Game and Prizes

I am hosting a shower this weekend, and I have one game so far: cut the length of ribbon closest to the Mom-to-be's size, should be fun. I am looking for a suggestion for a 2nd game, and for small prizes!

1) what is a fun baby shower game?

2) what is a good idea for a prize?

TIA!

Re: Fun Baby Shower Game and Prizes

  • At my shower my sis came up with a game where in teams you had to match the celebrity with their child's name. She did really obscure ones and made sure to make it multi-generational - not just current celebrities, so that all guests regardless of age could participate.

As for prizes, I think it's nice not to do baby related stuff because not everyone wants it. My mom did a bunch of stuff from Yves Rocher. You can buy the little bubble baths and soaps for not that much $$.  She found an Avon rep who put together a basket for free as a gift so long as we said it was donated by Avon. It was a really nice basket.

    Other stuff we did was

    - go to Micheal's and get a notebook, some nice pens, note cards, etc. and package them together.

    - You could also do a mani/pedi kit like nail polish, a foot file, toe separators and wrap it up in cellophane. I think you can get that stuff pretty cheap at Walmart or Zellers, or even the dollar store for the toe separators.

    - I'm not sure where in T.O. you are but if you ever get out to MIssissauga there is a Lindt Chocolate Outlet Store at Derry & Kennedy. You can get lots of nice boxes of chocolates for super cheap.

    - a tea for one cup with a few nice packets of tea

    - a popular new release paperback book with a little bubble bath

I think if you can buy things in packages and then split them up to make several prizes that would be good and cost effective.

  • 1 - There's the ever common name that food contest - people can smell and eat baby food from the jar (label removed) and have to guess it. Nat can tell you what a good it breaker is... she had to eat it last weekend. It is fun though

2 - You can a drinking contest... buy baby bottles (that are then gifted to the mom to be), put an ounze or two (no more trust me!) of juice in the bottle and have people race to finish the bottle

3 - The other I really like but some people are offended by it, take 5 chocolate bars and 5 diapers. One bar per diaper, microwave the chocolate in the diaper so it looks like a poopy diaper, and then people have to identify the chocolate by sight/taste.

4 - How well do you know the mom to be with questions based on the upcoming baby - mom answers them before the game.

5 - draw the baby - put a paper plate on your head and you have to draw what you think the baby will look like - mom is the judge

I'm sure there are more... Yvonne had good ideas for prizes... simple bath stuff, candles, starbucks/tims etc gift cards are always nice.

  • 1. Price is Right - we bought 10 baby items and people had to guess the price of the item (without going over). The person who was closest to the actual price for 1 point. In the end the person with the most points won.

    2. What will the baby look like - we broke everyone into teams of 2 and gave them magazines, scissors, glue, tape etc. They had to cut out features from the magazine and make what they throught the baby would look like. I have done this at 2 showers so far and every time I am in tears laughing at what people come up with.

I've done this one too - and then the mom to be gets the items as a gift!

  • great games!

The baby food one was lots of fun, and pretty tasty, (the veggies are actually not so bad) but the tie breaker was NASTOLICIOUS. blech!

It was turkey and sweet potato. Turkey in almost liquid form is not my friend.

2 other fun and easy games that you don't have to "do" in a block of time (they go throughout the shower)

    1) As each guest comes in, they get a mini-diaper (you can make these from felt and pins from Michaels), that is pinned up and they just pin it to their shirt/dress/whatev. At a point during the shower, have everyone open their diaper - the one that is dirty (use a yellow marker) wins a prize.

    2) As each guest comes in, give them one mini clothes pin (again, you can find at Michaels, or Dollarama). The challenge of the game lasts the whole shower. If anyone says "baby" during the shower, and someone else catches them saying it, they get to take their clothespin. The person with the most pins at the end of the shower wins.

As you can probably figure I definitely lost this game. Me and my big fat mouth.

Prizes: I won a wickedawesome spa package - a basket full of bath items, lotions, dissolving bath petals, loofah, and handheld massager. It was a beautifully packaged prize!

Other prizes that are good are timmy's/starbuck's/second cup GC's

I also won some freshly baked cookies (my aunt is a baker-extroardinaire). Those were like gold to me!

  • I've never played it, but my sister told me she was at a shower once where they played Twister, but everyone who played had to stuff a massive pillow under their shirt and try to play with their "baby" belly.

Apparently it was hilarious! I think it was a co-ed shower though...

  • Thanks everyone, love the ideas... I really like the "draw the baby" game, because it doesn't take much prep for me to get that organized and the shower is Sunday, lol!!! I'm pretty busy tomorrow so I will only really have time to make the food.

The diaper one just sounds NASTY hahah!! I am not sure some people would really appreciate that one! and the baby food one could work but the shower is going to be brunch so there will be so much food there already people will be stuffed!

    Thanks girls!
