Seriously, I am going to pull my hair out!

My child is going through teething hell right now. And I am about to pull my hair out and wrip my tits off!

His top teeth have been bothering him for more than 2 weeks now, the last few days being the worse. They are super swollen but won't cut.

He has been fighting falling asleep for an hour now. I know he is tired, the minute I hold him he falls asleep, and the minute I put him down he screams bloody murder.

I just called DH to come home and help me deal with him.

I gave him teething tablets at bedtime (1.5 hours ago), gave him a shot of tylenol 30 minutes ago. And just now, inbetween writing this post, DH went into his room and he was covered in puke. So either it was from him crying so hard or he has a tummy ache. So just now I gave him a shot of gripe water. I hate giving him all this, but I just don't know what to do. It breaks my heart to see him so upset but at the same time it frusterates the sh!t out of me.

What really works for teething, at this point it seems nothing works!

He has been up in the night too, not for a bottle, just randomly screaming (I am assuming from teething). I am tierd and so sick of him not STTN. Enough is enough already! :S

Vent over... thanks for listening. Any suggestions much appreciated.

  • *hugs*

Teething is hell. Really. the poor kids, the poor parents, it's not fun.

I wish I had tips - DD has had teething torture too, but her teeth also won't cut. It's been going on since she was 8 weeks. She has worked so hard to fight against the pain, but still no teeth to show for it.

Poor H. I hope he cuts that tooth soon so that he (and you) get a break.

  • It is hell, I hear you. DD is cutting 2 molars right now and 1 canine and she is absolutely miserable.

For what it's worth, the Dr Sears baby book says a one time double dose of tylenol can be given to 'catch up' on the pain, and you can give motrin and tylenol at the same time for teething, they'll both help. I give teething tablets too, and lots of chewy items, though DD prefers tugging super hard on bottle nipples mostly. Try dressing him cooly if he's slightly feverish, and other than that, I'm not sure. I've never tried ambesol, you know that stuff that numbs their gums. I just administer tylenol every 4 hrs and motrin every 6 and that does seem to help stay on top of the pain. Best of luck!!

  • Oh Lana! I hope you were all able to get some sleep last night. Sammy is having some trouble with teething too. I have tried all the teething rings and advil and orajel. Nothing really works great. Except for ice. I sanitize her water like usual (like I do for the formula) and I freeze it in ice cube trays and then wrap a cube in a cheese cloth and let her have at it. Also, you know those trays you can buy to make homemade popsicles with juice? I freeze water in those too and just hold it for her while she chews away.

Also I let her gnaw on celery and cucmeber. The coolness and firmness helps her. Of course she has no teeth yet so she can't take chunks out of the vegetables.

    I hope something helps!

  • Have you tried Camilia (it is a homeopathic product...company is Boiron)...I use it in conjunction with teething tablets and find it works pretty well.  My cousin with twins swore by it.
  • One of the only things that worked for DS was a frozen wet washcloth because it numbed the pain a bit and it didn't stay too hard unlike his other teething rings.
  • I don't know if this really works but you know those mesh feeder things where you can put food inside and the baby chews on the mesh which breaks up the food so they can't choke? Well a sales lady told me that when her babies were teething she would put chocolate pudding inside the mesh and freeze it. Then give it to the baby to chew/suck on and she said it made a huge difference as they were cutting new teeth.

I'm not sure if that is something that Haden's tummy could handle but I suppose it might not hurt to try.

  • Tempra and anbesol worked for my god daughter.
  • I am so sorry Lana, what worked for us was using Motrin instead of Tylenol it last for up to 8 hours instead of the four that tylenol works for.  I hope those darn teeth come through soon!
Proud Mama to two sweet kiddos.
  • Once he went down last night (at 9:00 - which is 2 hours past his bedtime), he STTN until 7:45!!!!!!!! :) Mommy is very happy this morning. I think his tooth might have cut a bit, but he won't let me look, I though I saw some white this morning but it could just be under the skin still.
