Fundraising Ideas?

Hi ladies!  Tim's deployment is getting close.  We have a family and soldiers support group (FRG) that's starting to kick off.  We organize activities for the families and put together gift packages for the soldiers once they get over there.  But of course all of this costs money and the unit's budget doesn't include the FRG.  We have to do our own fundraising.  I have a few ideas but I was hoping someone could give me some more.  We cannot specifically ask for funds from businesses, we can only ask for "support".  Any ideas are appreciated.  TIA!

Re: Fundraising Ideas?

  • How about asking for items for a basket auction? People could buy tickets and put however many in for the basket they want.

Also, some places will donate supplies for gift packages.

What about a yard sale where all proceeds go to you guys? Or a bake sale?

I'll try and think of other ideas.

  • Could a business offer "support" by hosting a FRG night where a portion of the proceeds goes to the group? I've seen local ice cream & water ice places do this as well as some fast food type places. Sometimes they give out cards for specific days or times and a percentage of the order price from anyone who shows the card goes to the group.

You may also be able to get local businesses, schools, youth & community groups to sponsor a supply drive. I know my school has participated in something similar before. We were given a list of items soldiers might need and everyone was asked to bring in an item.

  • I think Applebee's does that. Check their website.

  • Have a local business donate something for a raffle. We're currently doing this for my mom's 3day fundraiser. We have a local liquor store raffling off a Coors Light gas grill and we're also raffling off a video camera at work. I know with Liquor Stores they can't raffle anything for profit, so all proceeds have to go to a specific cause.

We're also planning a happy hour for her 3day fundraising. 10% of bar proceeds will go to the cause, and also $1.00 for every Cosmo purchased. We're having a 50/50 during the happy hour, selling t-shirts that have been donated, and jello shots. A lot of local bars in the area are open to this, especially this time a year when their a bit slower thanks to the shore and vacations.

As far as the t-shirts go, Rolferry's in Brooklawn is terrific at doing the shirts as cheap as possible so that you get a higher contribution to your cause when they're purchased. The owner Franny was a saint when it came to explaining what works best.

Bake sales also are great. We hold them at work all the time and everyone volunteers to bring something in to be sold.

  • If you have a lot of people (a gtg maybe!) you could do a chick-fil-a night or another restaurant...they give you a percentage of the revenue from the night.

Or you can find an avon rep. and sell avon...I know I need some stuff!

  • Burger King and Rita's both do those types of nights mentioned above.  How about a dinner raffle, as a bunch of restaurants for gift certificates.  Does your area have a big July 4th event? Maybe you guys could sell water and ice cream at the parade or fireworks.

That supply drive is a cool idea.

I assume your fundraising is yearround.  How about Breakfast with Santa, or maybe something like breakfast with Sponge Bob or Dora, etc.
