Can anyone recommened a female gynocologist in the area? I'm currently going to Dr. Rehikhiki and I love her but I got a little turned off when I brought up my concern of PCOS and she blew it off without even checking into it. I tried seeing another Dr at the office and she just did bloodwork...I was paying out of pocket for the bloodwork and found out after that she didn't even do it right and she said being on birth control wouldn't make a difference to the results...I'm now paying a $600 lab bill on pointless bloodwork.
I want a Dr that's going to listen to my concern b/c it's a valid one and one that maybe specializes in PCOS b/c after talking to my Dr it seems she doesn't know much about it b/c when I brought it up she just said that I don't look like the typical PCOS patient.
So any recs on good female Dr's would be great!!
Thanks in advance
Re: Female gyno?
I'm not sure what area you're in, but I go to Elmwood OB GYN in Woodbury - their offices are in West Deptford, off Kings Hwy. There are 2 women Dr's and 2 female nurse practitioners. I see Dr. Vivian Vega, but Dr. Jang is good, too. I have to see all of them for my pregnancy (which you would too if you join a practice). So I've met the men GYNs also - they are great, too. They deliver out of Underwood.
That's something you'll want to consider - pick a Dr that is affiliated with the hospital you want to deliver at.
I feel your pain. My gyno that I LOVE, Dr. Huggins, joined that group last year. The ONLY reason I stayed there during this pregnancy was because they deliver @ Kennedy Hospital in Washington Twp and that is where I wanted to have my baby. I had to beg them to refer me to a RE -- they said I was young enough and there was no rush and I should go a full year of TTC before seeing a RE... I finally got them to understand that I wasn't ovulating at all & have PCOS (disgnosed by an endocrinologist 5 years ago) --- so no matter how long I waited, nothing was going to change! Going 8 months w/out ovulation was enough for me.
My whole pregnancy I hated going to that office.... they were forever running late. I would take the 7 or 7:15pm appt and considered myself LUCKY if I got back to the exam room before 8:30. Some nights I was there until 9pm. I was so glad when I was finished there. I haven't been back since my 6 wk checkup after I had DD. I was suppose to get my IUD put in but the staff messed up when they requested it from my insurance and it was denied and by the time it was straightened out I was already back to work (12 weeks later!!!) and didn't have enough sick time to take the 2 days off that I needed to have it put in. Ugh, that was the final straw for me!!!
I am in the market for a new gyno as well, but like I said I need to find someone who delivers @ Kennedy because I refuse to give bith anywhere else, lol.
GL!
I wanted to add that you don't have to see a gyno if you are worried about PCOS -- you can also see an endocrinologist or a reproductive endocrinologist (RE). They specialize in the syndrome -- most OBs do not and just end up referring you to them anyway.
Even if you aren't actively TTC you can still see an RE. They can diagnose you, get you on meds, and then help you when you are ready.
Oh I completely understand....I had a 7:30 appt one time and din't get into the exam room until almost 9pm!!!
Dr. Huggins was the one that ran the bloodwork and she didn't it while I was on the pill which I knew was wrong but she assured me it would still show something. I then told her I was out of pocket and didn't want to do anything that would cost a fourtune if it wasn't going to do anything and she still did it and I got a big bill later. The office ended up eating half the bill b/c of it but I'm mad that she ran bloodwork that wouldn't show anything b/c of the birth control pill
I guess I could go straight to and RE to at least get it checked out and ask questions. Any recs on who I can go to in the area? I know South Jersey Fertility has an office in Washington Twp now are they good?
SJF is who I went to -- Dr. Packin specifically. He is a PCOS expert!!! I know a few people don't like his personality (he's a little dry), but that was fine with me, the guy knows what he is talking about! I was pg on my first cycle with them and when we TTC again I'll be going straight back to him.
I also agree with the pp, it's important to find a gyno that is affiliated w/the hospital that you want to deliver at. Most people prefer the Virtua hospitals (they are baby factories -- they deliver thousands of babies a year and heave a great reputation) but I have no personal experience with them, however I can say that both times at Kennedy I was more than pleased -- the "all private rooms" is really the biggest selling point. Every person I know who delivered @ Virtua had to share a room at some point during their stay and their DH couldn't sleep over -- that would NOT work for me at all.
The Dr I'm currently with delivers at both Virtua and Kennedy and I'd be happy with either. I'm gonna go to my yearly and really bring up my concern this time.....I'm going off the pill right after the wedding and I'm gonna tell her that I want all the testing done 2 months later...if she blows it off again then I'm just gonna go off the pill the same time and make and appt with an RE to do the testing.
I so wish I never went on the pill to begin with....and I would love to go off now but don't want to deal with any side effects that will come with it 6 months before the wedding.
I got the info for SJF in Washington Twp so I'll keep the number handy
Thanks again!
