I must have been wearing my invisible cloak

Story #1: At Starbucks I lined up to be next in line. I did stand a couple inches back to avoid blocking the entry way back into the mall with the stroller and from people in the line from walking back into me and the stroller. A man walked in, noticed me and stood behind me. A woman and her friend walk in and head straight to the register open, but with no barista. The man says, "How long before they notice us?" I say, "They won't". The barista comes back to the register and says "next", the woman proceeds to tell about her messed up order. She finishes talking and I say, mush harsher than anticipated, "there is a line up you know". They both look back at me and I give them the ol' eyebrows up look. She says, "oh, i didn't even notice you. I thought you were just standing back there". The friend says, " I didn't notice her either". But the friend did go back and stand in line. Just annoying y'know?

#2- Skyla and I were walking back from the movie store. We normally cut through the bay of the gas station instead of walking around the sidewalk way. It's just a one little bay with 4 pumps, and like 5 parking stalls in front the store part. There isn't enough room for somebody to pull out if there is a car at the pump and a car driving in between the two spaces. Today was a busy time, all the stalls were full and there were 3 cars in 4 of the pumps.

So we walk past the pumps and behind the cars. This lady and her friend get into their car and put it into reverse, no biggie. Most people wait for us to walk by and then pull out. Not this lady, she put it into reverse and started driving. I completely froze. She was reversing to exit out to the left so the driver side was moving into us. The next thing I heard was me screaming "WATCH IT". She hit the breaks and were were about 3 inches from her driver side back door. I heard her grumble something but not at all sure what it was. I just sord of kept walking around the car, with my vision all blurry and slightly tunneled. I felt like throwing up. Skyla was okay. She said, "that lady was not looking out for us" Then when we got to our house she said, "You scared me, you screamed real loud. That lady should be more careful her almost hit us". I have never been more scared in my life. I also felt so stupid for not making my usual eye contact with the driver. I could hear my voice echoing back for half an hour and now I can't sleep, gah.

Thanks for listening if you made it through that.?

Re: I must have been wearing my invisible cloak

  • People are clueless!!!  I am amazed at how many people live in their own bubble, and seem to believe that they are the only people on earth.  I notice it a lot at the grocery store.

As for the car thing....I am so glad that you are both ok!!!  Again, I am amazed at how many people are clueless when they're in their car.  I notice it a lot at the grocery store too.  I think I often go early Friday afternoons with all the elderly shoppers....the parking lot is a very scary place!!!

I hope you were able to get some sleep after all!

  • I think both are people in their own bubble, they are too worried about what they need to do to consider others.  I blame a lot of the bad driving on this too, people aren't focused on what they're doing, just where they need to be and what they'll do when they get there.

Good for you for saying something at Starbucks, sorry you were so scared in the parking lot.

My story, the other day we were at the liquor store and when she rang through our purchase one of the items scanned wrong (for $39 but said on the shelf $32) so DH and I said something and the cashier went over to look at the shelf tag with him.  While I was waiting for them this woman was approaching the check out with a basket of stuff.  Another woman came from the side practically running and cut her off to be in line first.  The first woman stopped and you could see her thinking "seriously?  Did that just happen" and I was kind of doing the same thing.  I knew the other line was open (the guy had just stepped away for a minute) so I pointed over there and mouthed "That one will be faster" so she went over there and sure enough she was almost done by the time DH came back and they corrected our pricing.  So karma, but still.  That someone would be so blatently rude to save 2 minutes.

  • This proves my theory that 99% of the population look out for #1 first.

I hate ignorant people. I'm sorry that the girl at Starbucks was a douche and that other lady driving shouldn't have a license if she can't care about the needs of others!!!

  • i am SO GLAD you are OK!
  • Glad you are okay and didn't get hit!

Sorry you feel invisible today!  People just don't pay attention!
