Hi OC nesties! Q about HB
DH and I are going to Pomona for a car show next weekend, and want to take our doxie to the dog beach in HB on Friday. Has anyone been there before? DH thinks we can lay out on the beach, and swim, but I have this mental picture of dog pee and poop all over-- I know people clean up after thier pet's (well, most people), but I'm still nervous about it.
Can anyone reassure me that it's cool? Also, we'd like to eat somewhere along Main St., but it's been a few years since we've been there. Where's a good (dog friendly) place to eat lunch? We really like Fred's, but I don't think we can take the dog upstairs.....
TIA!!
Re: Hi OC nesties! Q about HB
There's quite a bit of poo and pee at the HB dog beach. Not a place you'll want to swim. The owners let their dogs frolic in the water. It's great for dogs, not so much for humans.
It's really far away, but the one in Malibu is MUCH cleaner and there are a lot less people there. Probably because it's out of the way.
yeah, there are too many dogs around so I would think laying out wouldn't really be ideal.
not on main street, but lazy dog cafe is (obviously) dog friendly. there are a few other restaurants on main st that have outdoor seating that might allow dogs. no ka oi and the place next to it (I can't remember the name) have patios. BJ's has outdoor seating as well.
I haven't been in a couple years, but I don't remember it being insanely poopy. Like, you'll find the occasional spot where someone didn't clean up, but I remember it being suprising clean for the most part. Maybe I have low standards.

I live and walk by dog beach a lot. There are people that do lay out there...so I guess it would be a personal choice once you get there and see it.
Very recently quite a few local businesses including the Hilton Waterfront adopted the beach and have been cleaning it more often.
Park Bench Cafe near Dog Beach, down Goldewest is dog friendly. Lazy Dog is a good choice too, but far from Main St. and Dog Beach. If you go to Park Bench it is a quick drive back to Main if you want to shop.
Remember dog are not allowed on the pier only on the walkway parallel to PCH.
I used to run in the park where the Park Bench Cafe is and it always had a ton of people with dogs. It's very casual but was always packed when they were serving food. I have never eaten there but due to the fact that it is always packed it must be decent.
I know I have seen places where people have dogs. It seems the restaurants that have the patio area that is separate from the actual restuarant (directly on Main St.). I swear I remembering seeing dogs at Sugar Shack and places like that but I am not aware of the rules.

I used to work at BJ's and they don't allow dogs. The sugar shack has a back patio with a bench in facing the alley. Its on main street. You are allowed to tie your dog up to it while you are eating, and the food is great. Lunch and Breakfast only. Dog beach is fine you don't need toworry about it being dirty, We go surfing there all the time. Its a long area I like the spot closest to 17th street. You can tatally lay out or sit an relax, I used to go there everyf riday before my dog decided she was afraid of the water randomly
I'm not a regular poster here, but just wanted to share some info since Im from HB (I live in DP rigt now though)
