DL renewal- is this new?

I have to renew my driver's license. I cannot renew by mail and have to go to the DMV to take the vision test, take a new picture and get finger printed.

Is the finger printing new? I don't remember ever doing that before.

I don't think so. ?I think every several years they make you do this. ?The finger print is just one finger, I think, electronically.

I don't think so. I had to do this back when I first got my license. (then again, that wasn't too long ago... : ) )

I don't ever remember having to do a fingerprint but it was awhile ago since I first got my CA drivers license and when I renewed in April they let me do it by mail.

It is probably something that is done after "x" amount of years. My husband renewed his this year via mail.

When you take a pic they fingerprint your thumb.

I got fingerprinted back in high school when I got mine.

The reason you have to go in is for the vision test. You don't HAVE to take a new picture, but they will take your right thumb print if you do.

You should be able to renew by mail next time.

I say make an appointment! DH and I went last week and w/o an appointment.... YIKES!

When I got my new one when I changed my name I did a thumb print thing. But that was the first I remember doing it.
