Car Service to PHL Int'l?

Has anyone taken a car to the airport recently? I have to travel to Houston next week and then Chicago next month for work and I am so over riding in cabs. They are never on time and the cars are so dirty. Not to mention that they charge $50 to drive me there!

I have called Zark and A. Kings Limo and they are both a little pricey (Zark was $82 there and $87 back not counting tip and Kings was $76 there and $81 back). If it doesn't get any cheaper than that it looks like I will be stuck in a cab again, ugh! I don't think my boss will be happy when I submit a receipt for $175 just to get me to and from an airport that is literally 10 miles from my house.

Thanks!

  • You can take Rapid Rover Shuttle... they pickup a bunch of people though but much cheaper than car service.

  • Thanks, it's funny -- as soon as I posted this I called them for prices. It's $34 each way if I want to be picked up with other people and $84 if I want to go alone -- are they serious? For $84 I can get a Mercedes to pick me up!!!

It looks like if I want to travel alone then I'm going to be cabbin' it as usual.

  • Rapid Rover isn't that bad... most people they are picking up are also traveling on business.
  • My H uses Rapid Rover for business trips and we have used it a couple times while going on vacation.  The two times we used it for vacation, we were the only people in the van!
  • It's only $7/day to park -- how long are you going for?  I use ExpressPark or SmartPark and it's always seemed like a better deal than cabs or car services.

  • I'll be gone a week each time (sun-sat) and I have parked before but I hated waiting for the shuttle to pick me up and take me to the lot -- by the time I got to my car in the lot I could have been home! Maybe I'll give Rapid Rover a chance next week and if it stinks then I will take a cab when I go to Chicago next month,
  • So it's a lot faster to have a cab/car pick you up than the shuttle?  I never wait more than 5-10 min so I always figured a cab would be about the same.

It takes me 15 mins to drive to the air port from my house in Gloucester City - I practically live under the bridge (it's real classy, I know, lol). So in the 10- 15 mins it takes me to get the shuttle I could be home.

I used the parking when I had to go to Houston last summer and I vowed never again -- in addition to having to wait to get picked up I had to get off at a stop that was no where near where I parked because that stop wasn't open. I was furious! At the time I was pregnant, it was August and I was hungry. Not a good combination.

  • we always get Boston Coach..they cost abou $70 i think each way...not quite worth it if it is only you, but they wait for you in the airport with a sign with your name so you don't have to call them when you get off the plane.

  • Oh I never want to use the airport's parking again.  I hate that stupid lot and the walking.  That's why I use the independent lots. You can call them as soon as you have your luggage (so if you carry-on, I call as soon as I'm off the plane) so it only takes about 5 min to wait for their shuttle. Then they drop you right at your car.

The lot itself is another 5 min away, though, so maybe your methods are more time conducive.

  • When we went to South Beach we used this lot that came to pick you up in your car, then you just left the guy at the airport and went home. When we dropped our car off - they took us to the airport in our car. so no shuttle.

I cant remember the name, but it was about 5 min from the airport and only about $7/day.

  • I think we use what Toni does.  It was Pacifico.  I thought the process has always been pretty smooth.
  • Another option would be for you to just get over yourself.  Taking a shuttle with other people is not going to kill you.
