Saw your post on the travel board about AI resorts. We are going to be staying at the Royal PDC in Dec for a wedding. Did you do any activities outside of the resort when you were there? How was the beach-pretty nice?
You are going to love Excellence Playa Mujeres. We stayed there last Nov and it was awesome-we would go back in a heartbeat!

Ooooh, I hope you like it! We had a great time there. Let's see ... we did an excursion to Tulum and Xel-Ha. Booked that at the resort and were picked up at our hotel by a charter bus. I enjoyed Tulum more than Xel-Ha. Xel-Ha is like a natural water park where you can snorkel, float the river, swim with dolphins etc. We snorkled and floated the river. I was a bit disappointed with the snorkeling because we didn't see all that many fish and the water was not super clear. Also, it was kind of the family vacation atmosphere with all of the kids. The bad part about this particular tour was that on the way back, we had to go drop everyone off at their resorts (The Royal was one of the last drop-offs) . That ate up more time than I would have liked. I'd book a smaller tour group or possibly have a private car service transport us if I were to do it again.
We also took the ferry over to Cozumel and went on a little snorkeling trip. There will be a ton of snorkel tours when you get off the ferry and we just went with one of those. Don't know if that's the safest thing to do, but it worked out for us and we had an excellent time (much better snorkeling than at Xel-Ha).
Other than that, you'll be right off of 5th Avenue which is the main drag in PDC. There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants. There is a fire show at the Blue Parrot, which we tried to go to one night, but it did not start on time and we ended up leaving because we got tired of waiting. I heard it is pretty cool though.
I liked the beach! The sand was good and it was swimmable. I don't remember a lot of rocks or seaweed. We spent the bulk of our time by the pool, but we never had a problem getting a cabana at the beach when we went.
Let me know if you have any other questions and have fun!!! I'm SO looking forward to EPM since it seems to have such awesome reviews. Just about a month to go ....
Any tips for EPM?
Forgot one other thing we did ... parasailing! It was very relaxing (if you're not afraid of heights) and neat to see the view from up high. We booked that through the resort.
Thanks for the info! I really want to go to Tulum-it looks so beautiful there.
EPM tips-We were only there for 4 nights and it was a very lazy vacation. We didn't leave the resort to do any activities. They do have an acitivities desk where you can book excursions.
I got a facial and massage at the spa which was nice. If you go to the spa make sure you go early to use the water circuit thing-it's kind of fun. All the restaurants were really good. We liked going to the tapas place for appetizers or the Asian place for sushi then we would go eat dinner at one of the other restaurants...the portions were all pretty small so you don't get too stuffed. The breakfast buffet is really good-you have to try the french toast. We usually had lunch at the Lobster House everyday which overlooks the pool and ocean. The shows at night were kind of cheesy but entertaining. The special coffee drinks at the bar right by the outdoor theater are soooo yummy. After the shows we would usually go to the "club" with other people we made friends with there. It was really small but they had a DJ most nights.
Let me know if you have any questions. You are going to love it there!
Yep, Tulum is definitely worth a visit and will probably be even more enjoyable when you're there. We were there in June, so it was HOT and I have never seen so many mosquitos. Despite that, it was still beautiful and I'm glad we went.
I'm all for being lazy this vacation and just hanging out at the resort. We're thinking about taking the ferry over to Isla Mujeres for a day trip, but that's about it. Thanks for your EPM tips!
