Erin- what happened with the tree?
Did they figure out what the problem is? I hope it can be saved.
Re: Erin- what happened with the tree?
Not sure yet, the guy took a sample to test and be sure of what it is. But he thinks it is aphids (which is what I thought). And he said it looks to only be affecting about 5% of the tree, so we probably won't lose the tree as long as we can stop it now. He didn't say how to treat it yet, but will be calling us today. Thanks for asking!
I hope it gets better! We were thinking about putting a fruit tree in our backyard and cherry was one of our top choices.
Also, we had an arborist last year to fix up our big tree in front of our place last year, isn't it crazy all the stuff you spend your money on being a home owner? I tried to explain to some of my non-homeowner friend what an arborist was (and how much they cost) and they looked at me like I had two heads.
If you want a baby cherry tree, we have one (sprouted from the mother, lol) it's about 5 feet tall right now. but it's not in a place we planned to have a tree so you're welcome to have it (we also have some spare maple trees if you're interested).
Don't you need two trees so that they can pollinate and produce fruit? This is the part I'm still not sure on (and haven't really done enough research on yet). It's also one of the reasons we haven't got a tree yet, we don't really want two of the same type of fruit trees in the backyard, actually we sort of only want one tree in there so i want to make sure if it's a fruit tree it can at least produce fruit!
I think as long as you have some other similar trees in your neighbourhood which the bees will touch... (not totally sure) but I do know that all our trees have fruit. We only have 1 live cherry tree (other than that baby which just sprouted last year), and we have tons of cherries. We also have only 1 plum tree and it had fruit last year.
