FIL...WWYT?

So, I had drinks with my ex-sil the other night (she was married to DH's bro - they divorced 2 years ago). We always have a good chuckle reminiscing, and teasing, and making fun of my ILs, they're a funny couple. So, she tells me that a few weeks ago, she was having a late business lunch at a restaurant in the other end of town...and on the way out she spotted my FIL having lunch with a woman she didn't recognize. She watched for a minute and she said they were sitting in one of those round booths, but were sitting practically right next to one another, laughing, and drinking wine! WTF?! She said she scurried out before he could see her, but she said it's been bothering her ever since. She's not a spiteful person, and actually has a great relationship with them still, so I don't think she's trying to cause trouble. Is it me, or is what she saw totally effed up?

Re: FIL...WWYT?

  • I agree with you and think it is totally effed up.  Do your ILs have any issues?  Wonder why he was being like that, not a business lunch or anything.

  • gah!

    I don't know what I would think!

Is he in sales or in some kind of job where he has to woo customers? My dad has to wine and dine lots of people for his job, and I bet people could question it if they saw him out.

  • Nope, there is no way his job would have required him to be there (he's the Master Operator at an oil refinery). And, as far as I know, their marriage is solid. The weird thing is that a few years ago I actually said to DH that if someone told me that his dad was messing around on his mom, I woulnd't be shocked - cause the dude thinks he's a mad stud!

    Uh oh....Confused

  • I think it's effed up too... but I wouldn't say anything. I mean what if ex-SIL was mistaken and it wasn't him? or could easily be a misunderstanding.

    yikes though!

  • That's a tough spot... I don't know how I would handle it.. there's the coy "ex-SIL saw you at x restaurant the other week, did you like it? we're thinking of going there" just to gauge his reaction.. but me, I doubt I would say anything, too afraid of what I might find out..

    It's def a weird situation..

  • I agree it sounds wierd, but not worth bringing anything up. It's not like she saw him making out with this woman or anything. Some people swear they saw something, but they can be wrong or mis-interpret things which then makes things really effed up!
  • No offence and I hope this isn?t the case but a couple doesn?t need to be having a BAD marriage or even a rocky one to cheat. I?ve known some couples who everyone thoughts were solid and he or she were cheating. Why? I still wonder!

What I would do [because I?m a brat] is mention that you had drinks with ex-SIL and she recommended this GREAT restaurant that she went to ?last Tuesday??and see if he gives off a reaction.

GL ? this is a sucky situation to be in!!

  • This is definitely a messed up situation. I probably wouldn't say anything to your ILs since it is second hand information and it is too hard to figure out what is actually going on.

  • Wow what a tough situation. I personally wouldn't say anything because I wouldn't want to be involved in it. Plus you didn't witness it so who really knows what was really going on.
  • I would find it weird as well, but would not say anything since you weren't there to judge it for yourself. Here's hoping it was a one time thing and neither one of you runs across anything suspicious in the future!
  • I wouldn't say anything-- I would be too scared if it ended up being nothing to stir the pot. But I would be on the lookout for any weird behavior and such. If you didn't see it first hand it might turn ugly on you.
