Question for Homeowners

We're in the process of buying our first house and right now our file is in underwriting...from experience, about how long does that process take?  That and the title work are all that's left and I'm a nervous wreck...Thanks!

Re: Question for Homeowners

  • Sorry I don't have an answer to your question though apparently neither did 1,650 other people. Who are they?????
  • I'm not sure how long it can take. I think the underwriting and title companies tend to take as much time as they can right up until the day of closing. Do you have a closing date set? When we bought our house, we just knew that day was coming and didn't worry about the various things that happened every day unless someone called us with a problem.
  • I def don't believe we have 1,000 girls on our boards, so who are you lurkers??
  • Wow - that's a lot of lurkers.  I can't even entirely remember.  We bought our house 3.5 years ago and it's amazing what the memory does.  It depends on how busy your title company is.  I feel like banks and title companies are on their own weird schedule when it comes to these sorts of things.  BIL and SIL just bought a house and I want to say they had everything done in about 4 weeks... maybe a little less.  (gosh, I can't even remember with great accuracy and that was a few months ago)

I just realized I haven't been much help at all..... good luck!  I hope the wait will be over for you soon.

  • I don't remember the whole process. but I will comment on all the lurkers. They might have put this on the "HOT TOPICS"? I don't know. Just a thought. Anyways there sure has been a lot of people looking a some of these threads lately.
  • by the way it has beat out my CARPOOL post....
  • Hi there,

I am in the mortgage industry, and right now lenders are taking anywhere from 7 days to a couple of weeks with underwriting. This used to take maybe 2 days but things have changed big time. So depending on which bank your file is at, is where the turn around time differs. Just be patient because once your loan is approved the lender may have a list of conditions that need to be satisfied in order to be able to close. Good Luck!

OMG I just saw that! That has to be some sort of glitch lol unless there are ALOT of crazy lurkers out there....

  • Thank you ladies! :) This is our first home so things are extremely new to us and not knowing what's going on drives me nuts! Per contract, our closing date is on or before 7/10 but that was aiming high since we're going VA. I guess its just a waiting game from now til then....
