Holiday Pay

So, 4th of July is one of my paid holidays and I was just informed that because the holiday falls on a Saturday, I still have to work Friday and will not get that day off at all, I "may" get to leave early.  Is that happening to anyone else?

Re: Holiday Pay

  • We haven't gotten that far yet.  I was afraid something like this might happen... I hate it when fun holidays fall on a weekend!!!
  • I generally like my bosses but they are cheap when it comes to that!
  • We get a 'floating holiday', which basically means 8 hours of PTO to use at our discretion.
  • Surprisingly, our firm is closed on Friday before the 4th....which really shocks me because we don't get off for anything.
  • I work in sports, and we are in an off-season right now... so I think we will probably get a decent amount of time off.  I just started, and haven't worked July 4th yet... but when I was an intern a few summers ago... holy moly we got like the entire week off!  (makes up for a lack of X-mas time off... not the off season in December!!)  I am kind of hoping that happens again...
  • That's lame.

If the holiday is on a Saturday, we close on Friday.  If it's on a Sunday, we close on Monday.

  • I guess i am lucky, I have friday off and our office closes at 3 pm on thursday.

I remember it was a big debate when they made the decision.

Same here.  We have that Friday off.

  • We are closed on that Friday...its one of the local governement holidays.  I wouldnt be suprised if they start rethinking the holiday time we get off (what little it is) due to the budget cuts coming (again)!  Gotta cut 61 million somewhere... bleh.

    Yes. This exactly.

  • I will be working that Friday as well and most likely no possibility of getting off early. There is the slightest possibility that I may even have to work on the 4th in the morning (but I am going to do my very best to avoid that).

  • I'm surprised because my office doesn't offer many paid holidays but we are closed July 3rd (yay!)
  • We may or may not get the day off.
