My mom's mom is a piece of work. We tend to call her the 'mean' grandma. But she has her moments.
Anyways...she's been starting to give her jewelry away to her granddaughters. Even though when we were younger she informed us that she was going to swallow her jewelry when she dies. Nice, grandma.
I've gotten a few things over the past year or so cuz she thinks she has stuff that i like. Some is hit, some is miss. But she was telling me that she wanted to give me this one ruby necklace that she has. She was wracking her brain trying to decide who to give it to cuz ruby is July's birthstone. But none of us were born in July. Well, my dad was, but i don't think he'd wear a ruby necklace.
She then thought of me cuz DH proposed in July (of 2007)!! So i got the necklace. Literally, i just got the box at work.
It's actually really pretty! It's an oval shaped ruby with 12 baby diamonds all around it! I need to start getting this stuff appraised and then get renter's insurance. These jewelry pieces are all at least 30-50 years old, if not older! Oh, also, she says this necklace was her 40th wedding anniversary gift from my grandpa, and 40th anniversary is ruby. ![]()
Re: My grandma is too funny
Wow! That's nice that she's giving away her precious jewels - but what a weird way of doing it! lol
I need to get on the renter's insurance bandwagon - pronto!!
definitely a weird way to do it but nice that you have a ruby necklace
?
you can get appraisals at macy's
That's nice that she thought of you. I have a few pieces of very modest jewelry that were my grandmother's. The silver hoops I wear daily are from her.
Definitely get renters' insurance with a jewelry rider after you get stuff appraised.
