I survived!!

I am home safe and sound from my trip to Quebec City with 150 grade 8 students!!  The 12 students I was in in charge with were angels (all girls, and a hoot), so things weren't too bad.

We did have a few glitches though....one of the boys climbed out his window onto the balcony (which was one big long balcony attached to all the rooms on that floor) the first night, and our VP refused to discipline him.  So....as you can all guess...we had a bunch of boys climbing out the second night.  We finally got them settled (we had night security on), and threatened them with suspensions.  Well at 5:30 am, 4 of them climbed out and went to Timmy's.  When they were caught (by one of our parent volunteers who is an ex-prison guard..who woke up with a gut feeling that  something was going on), they denied it...even with Iced Caps in their hands!!  So we now have 3 kids suspended for the rest of the year.  Oh...and one of the other buses was in an accident (minor fender bender...everyone was ok) on the way home, and ended up a few hours late.

It's a pain in the butt, but the kids love it!

Re: I survived!!

  • If Ice Caps were the drink of choice then I think the trip went well :)

Glad to hear your students were great. Had you been to Quebec before? I love it!

How did you manage away from Ru?

  • I'm glad it went well (minus the bada$$ses).

How was R while you were gone?

  • Glad you made it home with all 150 of them intact!  What grade 8 kid wants to get up at 5:30 am?!  just to get an iced capp of all things?  Ah well, at least they got caught!
  • It is making me laugh that they snuck out for Iced Caps!!!
  • sounds like a fun trip!!! I'm glad things didn't get too crazy.

The ice cap story reminds me of when I was in high school - when we had a substitute teacher I would ask to go to the bathroom, and go across the street to Starbucks and come back with a frapucinno. YUM!!!!

  • LOL...I suppose that Ice Caps are better than something else!  These kids live in the middle of nowhere, so I guess being able to actually sneak out for something was too much temptation =)

Ruari survived....I'm not too sure she even noticed I was gone.  She was as happy as can be to hang out with my parents and DH...and when they came to pick me up she was more excited about the bus than seeing me.  I guess that's a good thing though!

  • Glad you had a good time.
