I remember you posted a while back about having sciatica. DH thinks I have it but I'm not sure.
I keep getting this awful pain in my left lower lower back that goes down through my hip (this is where it's worst) and down to my legs and even down to my ankly. It seriously kills. I didn't hurt myself or do anything out of the ordinary, just one day it started hurting.
I'll def. go to the Dr. if it doesn't get better but I just want to check what your experience is with it.
Thanks!
Re: CBL - re: Sciatica
Does it go through your butt and the back of your thigh? If so, that sounds like it. If not, it definitely sounds like some sort of nerve pain or other referred pain.
There's a stretch I found helpful. Sit on a straight back chair (like a kitchen chair, not an arm chair) with your back straight. Take the leg that hurts and cross the ankle over your other thigh (like how a man crosses his legs). Bend from the waist while keeping your back straight. You should feel a nice pull in the back of your thigh.
I also find using a pillow under my knees or between them if sleeping on my side helps, as do baths and laying on my stomach with a pillow under my hips for a maybe 10 minutes or so.
You might want to get it checked out to make sure that it's not a disk causing it. If it is, you'll want to do some physio and core strengthening.
And of course, massages are AMAZING for sciatica - really helps loosen the tight muscles. Acupuncture really helped me too.
Hope you figure it out and get it under control soon. It's definitely no fun
Thanks for all this info. The pain does go down through my butt into my thigh. It's really awful. It hurts to sit or lie down and of course walk around. I've just been taking advil for it now until I see the doc.
I am definitely going to try those stretches. Thanks!
oooh a massage. I haven't had one since I was pg. I love them!
Try Platinum robaxicil/robaxicette (can't remember which it is). The muscle relaxer in it is really helpful - more than Advil for sure.
Oh - and try icing your back for 20 minutes. Ice the spot right around where your belt would run or look for a diagram online of where your L4-L5, L5-S1 are. That's the around area that triggers sciatica. Heat feels great, but the ice will help more. But heat does feel great on the butt and thighs - just keep it off your back.
Oh, and DQ dipped cones will make you feel better too
mmm...DQ! I was at the mall this evening too, I wish I thought of it then!
It's funny, I carried DD in her front pack/carrier for 2.5 hours this afternoon and the pain was gone. Of course now sitting here on the couch, it hurts again. I'll try the ice tonight before bed. Oh and the Robaz Platinum - that stuff is awesome, I've had it before.
Oh boy, DH is in for a treat tonight. I'll be drugged up and icing my back like an old lady complaining about my hip. So sexy!!
