Ipod in the car listeners!

Ugh.. I got a new ipod nano after mine got stolen from my car about 6 months ago with an adapter for the car. Particularly, this one: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip-auto-universal-plus and I can't seem to find a station that doesn't have background fuzz! It's only a little bit, but it still drives me bonkers. Did I just get a sh!tty one or is this a common issue? Any trips? Particular transmitters you adore? I had a Belkin a long time ago which rocked, but it was twice the prices of the Griffin I now have. This one also plugs into the headphone jack instead of the usb port thingie. Think this is the issue? Ahhhhhhhhh! HELP!

Re: Ipod in the car listeners!

  • I have the Monster one that plugs into the charger port and have the same issue. It works great when I am not in OC/LA areas, but here there are too many stations to get it to consistantly function :-(
  • Do you have an AUX plug in or tape deck? H uses the AUX plug in. No static. I use a tape that plugs into my ipod cause my car is old skool like that. So 2003 Confused But it works no static!

  • I got nothing, I listed to CDs. Embarrassed
  • I have the Belkin one. I used to have a Griffin brand but it didn't work as well. I use stations in the 80's range.

I think having Sirius in my car helps A LOT. When I turn my sirius transmitter off while my ipod is plugged into the am/fm transmitter, I get a lot more static.

  • I don't use one anymore since my car has the plug in but when I did try to use one, I had an itrip by Griffin and it sucked.

  • I bought one and returned it because the static drove me nuts.  I could never find a station that worked and when you drive anywhere, you are always searching for stations.  I also had the tape player one and that worked great, but my car no longer has a tape deck.  Now I can't listen to it in my car.  You can get an auxillary jack installed in your car so you can just plug it in and play.  That would be my main suggestion.  I don't think they are over the top expensive to have installed either.
  • Few things work better than a tape deck connector.

If you are lucky enough to have a tape deck, I recommend that.

We live in too populated an area for there not to be static with all the other methods.

  • Yeah, right now it plugs into the lighter/aux... maybe I'll try the tape deck. Thanks guys!
  • You can also pay to have an input jack installed. It's not very expensive.
  • I had the same problem with the charger one.  Too much static.  I think the best station was 89.?   The lower I would go the better shot I had at finding a decent one.  The tape deck one works much better and they are cheap.  I am praying that the company car I will be receiving in about a month has the AUX-it should because it's a 2009 but who knows.
