Isn't it insane? I got on a list of a great school when I was 12 weeks pregnant. Still no guarantees of getting in. Ugh.
So I started shopping around. DD and I interviewed at a WONDERFUL place today. Huge waitlist. *But* it's not first come first served. Woo hooooo! I really clicked with the teacher for DD's age group. She said she's going to make a spot for us. I was in shock. Will find out by Wednesday what that might look like. Crossing my fingers... We looooooved this place. It's gorgeous. Set in a forest. And Reggio Emilia. Not a plastic anything in sight. And the kids have a lot of say how their spaces are set up... Really a creative and inspiring place.
We'll see...
Re: Vancouver moms. Preschool.
Sounds really cool!!
Ooooh, can I ask where it is??
Jakob's just been offered a spot in one at UBC. I like it, but it is full days, which I think will be just too much. There's a parent-participation preschool I really really want him to get in, but it is waitlisted. We weren't here to know about the 2 year old class (which is only a couple of hours, once a week), and those kids will all move into the 3 year old class. One of my friends who is moving away, though, will have to give up her spot, and she said she'd ask the director to give it to us, so I've got my fingers crossed.
You got on a preschool list when you were 12 weeks pregnant????
Holy moly that is early, no? Don't they go to preschool at like 3 yrs old???
I hope you get in to the place!
Frau, it's Alderwood House in Richmond. ::swoon:: It's better than it looks.
Little Ark is the one I got on the list for when I was 12 weeks pregnant. Awful website, great school.
Frog Hollow is another consideration.
I've heard great things about the UBC one.
I also like the looks of the preschool programs at the Vancouver Waldorf School. (Although the more I hear about kids who go straight through Waldorf, the less inclined I'd want to do much there past kindergarten. It's expensive, too.)
The way the world is going, it doesn't hurt to get their little brains 'working' early.
I am impressed that the school is so good that you'd commute from downtown to Richmond!
Is Little Ark in Pt Grey?
The UBC preschool seems great, but I can't picture sending Jakob off with a lunch at only 3 years old. I love that it is integrated, and the programming seems good, but the long days just seem to much at this point. There's a part-time programme, but it has reduced days/week, rather than shorter days.
We're not downtown any more! We're mid-Main-ish. Was only a 15 minute drive this morning to that school in Richmond.
Yes, Little Ark is in Pt Grey. I know the facility well. Alderwood House is much nicer.
I don't want a full time program either. 3 half days a week would be ideal for us. But we might have to do do 5 days a week. We'll see.
Ah, I hadn't realised that you'd moved. 15 minutes doesn't sound too bad at all.
I've seen the sign for Little Ark. I guess if you've been on the waitlist since you were pg, there's no chance for J to get in!
