Puppy/Dog Training Recs?

Anyone have any recommendations? Anyone try the Petsmart/Petco classes? Tallulah is ridiculously good for a puppy, but I do want her to learn a few tricks. Thanks!

Re: Puppy/Dog Training Recs?

  • The chick that MBOC recommended to me 2 years ago! Hopefully she has her info.
  • all force-free training and she gives a major discount if you adopted/rescued. www.dogspeakoc.com
  • I wouldn't do the Petsmart type classes-- for many reasons I won't get into here. They just aren't effective IMO

We used http://bobburrud.com/ which was a rec from yeahimcat's trainer. He is more North County, but they use the same methods. Sona made great progress with him and he has a few locations, etc. He is about the same price as Petsmart and a world of difference

  • My recs are in the Yorba Linda area, probably too far for you. I've heard awesome things about MBOC's rec though.

I am personally not a fan of most Petsmart/Petco classes. Sometimes you do get a fabulous trainer but I've watched too many come and go from the YL Petsmart to know that most of the good ones leave quickly to go into private classes or burn out. :(

  • Our pup's pretty smart but we wanted to take him to a class mostly for our benefit so we did the Petsmart route. I cant say I've been thoroughly impressed but it definitely has helped in certain areas with his training. To be honest he gets so excited to see the other dogs when we're at class that we just go to learn the techniques and practice with him at home. If I could do it over again I would have picked more 1-1 training.
  • We've used http://www.caitlinlane.com/ from Dana Point. Good Luck, cute sig pic!
  • We used Bark Busters and LOVED our trainer. Plus, they give you a lifetime guarantee option. I believe they have reps all over the place. They come to you.

  • I guess Petsmart is hit or miss, but we took our doggy there and it was a total hit!  Maybe try observing a class at your local Petsmart and see what you think of the trainer.  Unfortunately our favorite is in L.A., otherwise I'd recommend you.
