Need Ideas

I'm helping some friends move into their first house this weekend and I wanted to get them a little something as a housewarming gift.  When I moved, one of my friends gave me bread, salt, and wine and each of them had meaning (bread so your house may never know hunger, salt so your life is full of flavor, and wine so you can share joy with friends and family).  I thought that was cute, but I think it's more of a wedding tradition.  I might just get them something more simple like a plant.  Anyone have any other ideas?  I was also thinking that maybe I should save the gift for some time when they aren't in the middle of moving.  Would it be better to wait for the next time I go over there?

Re: Need Ideas

  • I vote either a plant, a bottle of wine/champagne to celebrate, or a homecooked meal or giftcard to a local restaurant to eat dinner at.
  • That's so nice that you're helping them move! I like the homecooked meal idea as well as the gift card idea. You could even get a gift card to Pier One or Lowe's for once they are settled.

Then when they invite you over for dinner for the first time, you can bring the wine/champagne! :)

  • A little gift basket with some Dawn, a dish cloth, a dish towel, a pot scrubby would be a cute idea.
  • Thanks Ladies!  Sara, I like your suggestion.  I think I'm going to run with that a little and make a moving survival kit of stuff they might need but not think to have around when they're moving.
