I'm wondering if they CAN"T get out of the show just yet, due to contractual reasons. Even if they could break the contract, I'm wondering if the financial penalties for breaking the contract are more than they afford to pay.

Most likely. They're not living a frugal lifestyle. They probably can't afford to quit the show.
And now she's really backed herself into a corner. The show probably contrubuted to the breakdown of her marriage (I say contributed because I do think that they're incompatible) and now she HAS to continue to the show because she has no other means of supporting the lifestyle they've created for themselves.

I don't know much about the show but I would say you're bang on with this....
Think of how amazing TLC's ratings must have been last night! No way they'd let this cash cow go just yet...
I'm not even talking about how much they get paid per episode....I mean, they've signed a contact to do the show for x number of episodes...if they back out, they probably have to pay a penalty...they probably don't have the money to pay the penalty.
Just a guess...
they do need the money to support themselves too though.
I heard they get $100K per episode plus royalties. ?And that they signed a contract for 40 more episodes. ?That's basically two seasons. I bet the penalties are astronomical if they pull out.?
