back from vacation

hey ladies!

we just got back last night from our 5 day wine road trip tour. it was amazing. we went to 5 wineries, bought 6 bottles of wine, stayed in 3 hotels, and had a great night out on the town in Michigan. DHs parents say it was our honeymoon. I hope we can do something bigger for that in January. We will see. It was niceto get away for a while and now back to the grind. Hope everyones doing well. Smile

  • Riesling..........mmmmmmmmmmm that's my fav :)  i need to try this ice wine, what is that exactly?
  • Meg,

?It's wine made from grapes that have been left on the vine. They leave them until usually mid January (they have to wait until the temp drops to ridiculous lows). They are harvested when all the water freezes, so all you get is one tiny drop of juice from each grape, but its ultra-concentrated, because its all the sugars. It has to be done while everything stays frozen, so they have to pick them (by hand) at like 4 am when its 30 below. All this means its expensive....but SO good. Its way thicker than reg wine, and you would just have a small glass...its almost sort of syrup-y, and very very sweet.??

  • well said meagan. its super expensive (around $60-100) for a smaller sized bottle (half the size of a regular bottle of wine). but its oh so good!!

  • Just a side note - our vineyards in Minnesota only have to leave grapes on the vine until sometime in October of maybe November to get ice wine! Usually we have a hard frost by then so the grapes are frozen and can be picked. It's still very expensive, but can be made earlier in the season!
