Anyone else watch it? I have to say - we never really watched it before but started catching reruns here and there over the past week.
I couldn't believe how cold Jon was... say what you will about Kate, but you can see she doesn't want this and Jon's the one saying "Uh uh... I want out and want my own life!"
Re: J&K+8 (spoilers)
Yup. I didn't want to miss it (as sad as that sounds). Jon kept saying how he was ready to start a new life and how he was only 32 or 33. Umm...wow. Hello baggage! I don't really think you can just start over when you have 8 kids to take care of. They never should have done this season but what's done is done.
Side note: How about those earrings on Jon?? I had to LOL.
What I found was funny was we saw the episode for their 3rd birthday and July 4th one year. It was discussed how he had put on weight and wasn't taking care of himself like he had when they first met. And now he looks more like he did back when they first met and he seems kind of arrogant like "I look good, dammit, and I'm gonna have my cake and eat it too."
Kate seems dedicated to the family. He seems dedicated to himself and living it up.
MH said he read that Jon never wanted kids. Gee... you think? He sure doesn't act like it!
I used to watch the show religously. I stopped about a season or so ago because all of the advertising, etc grated on my nerves. Plus Kate drives me nuts. But I watched the first episode of this season and the one last night. I have to say I have for the most part been on team Jon but i just couldn't believe how he was acting last night. He seemed so cold and distant from the whole thing. Even though I was almost positive, as were most people of what there anouncement would be I was still really sad about it (I'm a dork I know). I just feel awful for those kids.
DH and I watched it. Yep, you could tell he is done. Not only by waht he said but also his body language. The thing we all need to remember is they haven't just begun dealing with this since the new season...this is their real life so I am sure they have been separated for much longer than we know. I could almost tell from the first episode this season that he wanted out. It's sad that they need to divorce for him to finally stand up for himself...if only he would have done it sooner, they may have been able to save their marriage.
I think they are both to blame. Kate never realized the effects her desire to continue with the show and the free product placement had on them. She said that she's doing this for her kids. If you really cared about them, you would have got out a long time ago. Those kids are going to need therapy, especially Mady.
As far as Jon goes, I do feel sorry for him. If you ever watched their orginal TLC special, they mentioned how he never really wanted to to have any other kids beyond the twins. Kate pushed for the 3rd kid and ended up with the 6 more. I think he finally got sick of her getting his way.
I wish they would have worked things out for the kids but we don't necesarrily know what wasn't shown on the episodes. What is quite clear, they have severed many bridges and now have nobody but TLC (and who knows how long that'll last, especially if their ratings keep dropping). People are sick and tired of the show being a constant berage of advertising/product placement.
