A tentative deal has averted the prospect of an LCBO strike.
The
Ontario Public Service Employees Union has reached a tentative
collective agreement with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, the
union said this afternoon.
The main issue involved part-time
hours and benefits, with the union contending provincially run liquor
stores were moving to make most jobs part time.
?We set a
goal in this round of bargaining that we would not settle for any deal
unless it protected the livelihoods of our permanent staff and made
measurable gains for the majority of our members who are struggling to
make ends meet as casuals,? said Vanda Klumper, chair of the union
bargaining team. ?We achieved that goal.
?The bargaining team is unanimous in recommending acceptance of this historic contract.?
LCBO and union negotiators agreed late Tuesday night to extend the 12:01 a.m. deadline this morning, until a deal was reached or one side walked away from the table.

Re: f/u no strike at LCBO so drink up!!
I agree. Others may disagree, but I think they are overpaid for retail workers. There are skilled labourers and post secondary educated people who make less than this. I don't think they should be paid above the market value for a retail position simply because the employer happens to be the government.
