Trying not to punch a student
I was asking my students about The Hangover, since I'm planning on seeing it this weekend.
Someone said there were some half-naked men in it, and I said I was on board.
Then this girl said, voice full of disdain, "yeah, but they're Chinese and they're fags."
My hands are shaking right now...I hate summer school.
Re: Trying not to punch a student
Yeah, and those Chinese fags are smart enough not to need to go to summer school, dumbfuck.
I could never be a teacher. I'd get kicked out so fast.
What a ***.?
Dang. I only said biatch. No need to sensor it, NestGod.?
I blew up. Everyone was scared. Haha.
I said using the word fag to describe anyone, regardless of sexual orientation, is unacceptable, and that any disparaging comments about homosexuals were not allowed in my classroom. And then that I didn't appreciate her insinuation that asian men were unattractive.
Then I sat down because I wanted to slap her.
Really, the worst part is that she has NO IDEA why I got so upset and NO IDEA why what she said is wrong. That's what kills me. She was honestly confused by my reaction.
I will have to revist the subject when I have calmed down.
I don't let kids in my normal class use "gay" or "retarded" to describe anything...but I didn't get a chance to give that lecture in here yet. :-
Good for you! Not that I expected you to do anything less. How sad that she had no idea why you were mad...
UGH, two of my biggest pet peeves about my time teaching. I had to just create a "Dead Words" poster and put it up in my room so that kids knew from jump street that there'd be consequences to using those words in my room...or really, in my presence. Keep fighting the good fight!
That's awesome that you said that. Maybe it will at least make her think.
