We are looking to buy a new or used car for me....we are having trouble deciding between the following-which do you think is the best in terms of space, safety, and for babies (we are starting a family in the next year). we hope to have the car 7-10 years.
Honda CRV
Toyota Rav4
Hyundai Sante Fe
I appreciate your thoughts!
Re: Out of these cars..
I can tell you I have a Honda (Civic) that has lasted me 9 years. My first car was a Toyota (Cressida), it was 17 years old when I finally sold it and bought the Honda. Granted, my parents had had the Toyota since it was brand new, but I digress. I can tell you either of those cars will last you.
I'm personally not a Hundai fan.
I LOVE my CRV. I've had it just over a year now and I'm so happy with it. I haven't had any problems. Space was important to us - with my husband being 6'4" he has plenty of head room and doesn't feel cramped when driving. If anyone is in the backseat behind him they still have plenty of leg room.
I didn't look at the Rav4. We did look at the SantaFe - but for some reason I don't trust a Hyundai.
If you do end up with a Honda DO NOT look at Vandergriff Honda in Arlington. They are awful.
Good luck.
I would not discount the Hyundai. Apparently they have damn good reliability now (as opposed to how they used to be) - plus they have a standard 100,000 warranty if I'm not mistaken. Besides the fact that the Santa Fe is much better looking than t he CR-V or Rav 4.
But you probably can't go wrong with any of them. I would check out Consumer Reports.
I've had a Hyundai Accent for 5 years and (knock on wood) have had no problems with it. It came with a 5 year road side assistance and it's a limited 100,000 mile/10 year warranty. And it was the best price at the time for a new 4 door compact car.
I'm sure any of your choices will be good, but I've had no problems with my Hyundai and after my used VW that gave me so many problems I've been really happy.

My BIL has a Rav4 and loves it.
I have a Mazda CX-7 and absolutely love it (just thought I'd throw that out there in case you had over looked them hah).
..but my main point of this post.. I agree that Honda Vandergriff in Arlington = worst place to buy a car. I bought my Civic there 7 years ago and had a HORRIBLE experience. When it was time for a new car, we decided to give them another chance... HORRIBLE experience again. We left and went to Hiley Mazda. Loved them! I bought my Tribute there 3 years ago... this year I bought a CX-7... man, I just realize I go through cars like crazy haha. I will NEVER buy a car or even look at a car from Vandergriff again... same goes for some friends of mine.
When I was car shopping... I looked at all of these too. ?I ended up with a Mazda CX7 - I know its not on your list but you should take a look! ?It is not too big - but it is still comfortable for my fiance. ?He didn't like any of the other ones I liked becuase the seats were smaller and uncomfortable.
SO - If you aren't sold on any of those three, check out the Mazda! ?I L-O-V-E mine!!!!!?
HA! Didn't read this before I posted. ?Seriously... CX-7s are the BEST! ?:-)?

This.
I have had my Hyundai Accent since 2002. It had 7 miles on it. It now has over 100,000 and I have not had any major issues with it. (knock on wood.)
I have a toyota Highlander and absolutely love it. and I have had a GREAT experience with Vandergriff Toyota... weird.
That said... the CR-V and the Cx7 are both great cars too.
actually I have no bad reports on any of them... just want you to think about how many kids you are going to want. If you plan on keeping the car for 7-10 years, you will need to make sure that you can fit everyone and their carseats AND their stuff.
That's what deterred me from the Rav4.
I also have a MAzda CX-7...I wanted to get the Honda, but it came down to comfort for me (mind you I am a real big person). I prefer Honda because I'm of the opinion they are the best cars out there. Toyota coming in behind them. But I dont like how the Rav 4 looks, so I didnt even pursue it. So, I wanted to fall in love with the crv, but it just wasnt comfy for me. The CX7, fits me perfect. I know it looks to be the same size as the others, but to me its a little more broad and spacious.
So, if its out of the 3 you listed, I vote for the CRV! They are so great looking and its a Honda!
