I changed my name a while ago, got my new SS and CC's sent to me. It just dawned on me that when I got my new cards with my married name, I cut up my old credit cards. With my maiden name on them. I want to throw up. I still have my social and my Mom found a store credit card, but it's embossed on, not even like a normal card and imprinted.
I think I'm going to cry now.

It's a piece of plastic that truly would be potentially unsafe to have around if it was not in a safe. But either way the "memento" would just sit and collect dust, it is not going to take you back to pre-wedding life. Those memories are the same regardless of your last name.
Not trying to be snarky, but put it in perspective.
Do you wish you hadn't changed your name? I don't really understand those type of feelings you described. It feels strange to go from a really uncommon last name to a super common one that I don't completely identify with yet but at the same time, I'm happy to have my husband's name. I know not everyone feels that way about changing their name, though.
Do you have a high school or college diploma or birth certificate with your maiden name that you can put in a safe and keep instead of the credit card?

Jax, not snarky at all. I think it was a combination of PMS & our temps went from 65 to 95 over night and I was grouchy and sicky and then realized that I'd cut them up and it hit me wrong.
Beth, no I don't regret it at all, I love saying my new last name!! Like I said above, it just hit me wrong. I think you and I are in the same boat, my maiden name wasn't too common and my married one is. But I do love it. And DH haha. I've got my diploma, yes. That's true, I didn't even think about that really. I certainly worked harder for that than a credit card. Thanks for pointing that out.
Joeys... the funny thing is I was all excited to cut it up because I'd paid one off before I got the replacement, then it's like, oh crap. But reading the replies makes me feel better now acutally.
Laurel, yes there is. I'm glad Beth pointed out about my diploma. Hadn't even thought about it until she mentioned it.
